So, it's that time of year again for us u.s. citizens we have a deadline to reach and it's called Tax Day, April 15th. Taxday this year is on a saturday and I still haven't done my taxes yet.

But, I'm doing them tomorrow night. I owe the feds around $70 and I'm getting $95 back in state taxes meaning I'll net around $25. Meaning, I got raped on the taxes this year.

But, it's just something that we all have to do. I don't want to get arrested by the government by not doing them so yeah...

But usually, I have them done already but I have had sort of a hectic year so I'm doing them right on pay-day. Smiley

Yeah. It's cause I make $10 an hour, plus I'm single. That's the reason I owe. That and they didn't take enough money out this time.

But, this year I'm doing the cafeteria plan so things will be different the next time. You know what that is right?

The Democrats can be blamed for this. They seem to enjoy and look forward to April 15.

Wow - that's not bad at all!  The real goal is to break even and you can't come much closer than that!

I will never be able to take the standard deduction on federal.  I live in NY and the taxes are so high that I'm over it with just my taxes let alone anything else that I can write off!

I forgot to mention (as I just learned this last afternoon) that because April 15th is on a saturday this year, that tax day is really on April 17th this year.  peace

I've never owed at the end of the year.  I don't really understand why some do and some don't.  I used to always have maximum withholding on my checks but then after I bought a house and had a kid I started getting so much back at the end of the year that I changed it.  But I still get back plenty.  Even when I was single and working at  burger king (I was 16!)  I never owed money, just only got back a few dollars.  How does that happen?  Do some employers just not withhold enough?

Often self-employed people and those who have passive income (ie investments) owe money at the end of the year.

1. The due date  is April 17th this year.
2. My fucking tax bill was over $10,000 this year. I just got a $50,000 raise (seriously) so next year will be insane! Sad

No offense, but I wish I had that problem.

I wish I made that much money.

I did my taxes and I had to pay them $110 for them to do the taxes and for me to send in my check of $70 to the feds. My state tax check should be coming (it's $95) this Friday. I'm just glad I got it done. Big sigh of relief.

Now, I'm broke. I mean really broke. I only have about $25 bucks.

Tax time in Canada is great for students... I'm due for a nice tax refund.  I'm not sure how things work in America, but here in Canada we pay in to pension plans, income taxes, and employment insurance on every cheque, plus other deductibles...  If you're a student, you get it all back come tax time!  beer  Having worked part time while I was in University and worked full time over the summer, I'm going to get a great return.   peace

We get to pay state taxes, social security, income taxes and medicare.

We also have benefits such as healthcare (medical, dental, vision), 401K Retirement plan (mine takes out 6% of my checks) and I am also on a thing called A Cafeteria Plan which takes out money for things that you will pay that insurance  sometimes does not cover such as braces and you send in your receipts and basically it makes it so that you earn more on your taxes as long as you send in those receipts.
