After hearing everyone say how Axls voice sounds as good as it did  since the early 90's I was very curious to hear a recording of the 2006 tour....the NYC shows were too crappy for me to waste my time downloading so RIR is my first listen to the 06 Axl.....I had just listened to my bootleg from may 29, 1991 indiana where Axl's voice is perfect and hoarse (in a good way) in that show....Well I was a little disappointed in the 06 Axl vocals...NO WAY is he as strong now as he was then........NO WAY.....But,I will admit his voice is much better than in 01 and 02 where it was just sad how bad it had become..........I think everyone was hoping and praying his voice would be as good now as it used to be, so no matter what people would say its great..I remember in 02 people saying how great his voice was, now everyone admits it sucked then for the most part (boston december 2, 2002 he actually sounded pretty good) Take away all the glee and happiness that axl is back and just examine his vocals and you will realize its not as strong at is was in his prime

lol here I go again... I was there and I?m not one of those who takes sides and keep  deffending them, I?m not all for Axl at all... but I gotta say, his voice was just brilliant! He had such a powerful voice last night and today when I watched my tape I almost cried lol as it was so different and worst than what I had seen last night, no

His voice is just different, I don't think it's any less powerful than it used to be.  His screams are better as his voice used to be a little too ragged imo.

Are you kidding? Axl's voice during the UYI tour was very damaged from the length of the tour. HIs voice is very rough, and considering the fact he shouldn't normally sing like that, he fucked it up bad. At the end of most UYI shows, his voice was so hoarse he good barely speak, and left lyrics out. I'm not an Axl worshipper, but he has definatly improved over 93, 01, and 02.

as many threads as possbile since that is the biggest thing that will dictate the future of this band and of mr rose himself..........the mix i heard of last nights show, the vocals came through very clear and crisp......i actually prefer HOARSE Axl over high pitched Axl......some shows on the UYI tour he thrashed his voice but i think the hoarseness gave it an edge..........some people prefer a cleaner higher pitch.............

Yes, we GNR fans are easily pleased. I think that sums us up perfectly. Seriously though, his voice sounds way better than '93. He just sings differently for the most part. On songs like KOHD and My Michelle for example he sings just how he did back in the day, but on others he sings with a different style. Voice is still strong, just different.

I missed the first two songs. When they got to SCOM, he sounded so bad.. I think I could've done a better job. Several times, when he tried to go high, his voice gave out and it turned into a whisper. He completely left out the scream in IRS. Although, it did seem like as the night went on his voice got stronger. It's not what it was 15 years ago. But, that was 15 years ago...

He's better than 02, and for his age he is very impressive.

The voice many people see as the Axl voice comes from extensive smoking, extensive singing...it's not really his voice..but something that happened due to mentioned factors..among others Im sure.

A voice coach once told me he was surprised Axl actually managed to save his voice after Illusion. He thought it was wrecked forever...

His vocals aren't as good now by any stretch of the imagination. On the new songs especially, they are terrible. I guess he didn't record some of the new songs to suit his natural singing voice so he just can't duplicate them live. The Blues and Madagascar sound great, but I could do a better job on Better and IRS. From what I've heard, he is not as good as he was in 2002, and this is coming from one of his biggest defenders after the VMAs.

He's more raspy again now, for whatever reason. He's having a hard time during Better, but the song is rather difficoult too.

Yes...we are easily pleased by Axl's voice now..but if you were there for the 90-93 concerts you would have just been thankful to hear him at all.
