I thought they were mixed differently, but I'd have to double-check.

I'm going to compare them later (I have both versions) and will post what I find.  As of now the info that I have always heard (and what another trusted GNR forum member has told me as well when I asked him) is that the mixes are supposedly different.

Inside of the UYI II booklet the song Civil War is copyrighted as 1990 Guns N' Roses Music ASCAP.  This is the same copyright date as the soundtrack "Nobodys' Child - Romanian Angel Appeal" from which the "original" Civil War appears, yet it's odd that on UYI II there is no mention of the song being previously released on this soundtrack.

However, the UYI II version does credit Steven Adler for drums.  By this info alone we know the only difference would be a remix at best.  It's a bit confusing but I will definitely try and solve it for sure and post what I come up with.

...CD comes out when?

« Reply #8 on: July 01, 2006, 01:38:36 PM »

You can tell in this version that it's Adler on drums, more than the UYI version. It's more...his 'style'

Also, you can hear Duff better on background vocals.

Thanks man, that will give me a better focal point.  I've been very busy but it "seems" like I did notice something different about the songs, not vocally, but something else.  I am going to really put it through the tests and figure this damned thing out!

The version of Civil War available on the the 'Nodoby's Child: Romanian Angel Appeal (1990) IS a differant mix to the version on UYI2.

The track is 7:34, rather than the 7:42 LP version, although i can't work out whether there is an edit or the track plays slightly faster. Secondly Duff's background vocals are slightly more audible than the on the final mix.
Overall the track simply sounds like an earlier, rougher mix before the final mastering of the record

yeah but it seems to me like the UYI track just has 5 seconds of silence at the end.

I'll have to listen to it again for the background vocals thing and figure out exactly how much dead air is at teh beginning and end of each track...i did notice that one was like 5 or 6 seconds longer though....thanks everybody for the help ok

for being relatively highly sought after, the differences it just don't seem to justify it....does anybody know about a shorter mix that received radio airplay about a year before the UYI's? that's what i thought this was Undecided

I haven't did everything yet but I can tell you I don't think the length of the song has anything to do with it.  I have the booklet from UYI II and the booklet from the soundtrack in my hand and both list the Civil War song's length exactly the same - 7:36.

Busy day again (sorry, excuses excuses!) but I can say on my first few listens that I believe these songs are the same.  However, and this is the weird part, I think the soundtrack version of Civil War actually sounds better in terms of mastering.  It's almost as if you are listening to the remaster on the soundtrack even though it predates the UYI II version.

Actually, I agree.

Even with the GH version, this version sounds more...clearer..?

Anyway, could you tell the difference with the drums and Duff?

I would say Duff and the drums had more clarity due to better mastering.  That's my thinking so far anyway.

Slash: It's the same version [as the one on Nobody's Child - Romanian Angel Appeal], just mixed better.

--> that quote should be on GnRinfo.tk.
