Chinese Democracy out 2014!

« on: July 21, 2006, 08:47:33 AM »

I was listening to radio while jogging (hope I'll get my iPod back soon nervous), and I noticed couple of things:
-In Finland we have like 20(?) radio stations, and 50% of them are Swedish and Russian and they play only crappy music and talk shit that I can't understand
-So there is like 10 stations that I can understand, but one plays only classical, 3-4 plays only shit for 8-18yo girls (Shakira/Britney/Darin..), 2 plays music for grandma's, the rest are some kinda news-stations and they play like 5 songs per hour.
-Wait! There is one interesting channel! Radio City.. their motto is something like "The only rock n' roll station in Finland! Rock from the '80s, '90s and '00s"

Well I've been listening to this station for couple of years now when I'm working, in a car, hanging around etc.. and for christ sake, they must have the smallest setlist (or what ever it is) on earth. Same songs from day to day, year to year.. During this week I've listened to this station three times (about 20min each time) and I've heard Rebel Yell twice, Animal twice, Patience twice and one song twice too but I don't know its name. And these are the songs I've heard hundreds of times from this one channel within these couple of years. There are some other songs/bands too that you can hear many times every day (glad I didn't hear them today).. Green Day, Lordi, Kiss, Whitesnake, Hanoi Rocks, Metallica, Rolling Stones.. yeah, good bands! But I just don't want to hear the same songs every time I get into a car. You know, if they play Estranged now, they don't have to play it again within 3 hours.. they could play some bands they haven't played for a while. Maybe tomorrow they can play Out Ta Get Me for change. But nooo, they will play Estranged again followed by Rebel Yell and Fool For Your Loving. After three months they change Estranged to November Rain and play it for other three months and so on..
It's time to get a cd-player in to the car so I don't have to whine about this hihi

But anyway, do you guys still listen to radio? Is there any good rock-station anywhere on earth? Tongue

Nah... Don't listen to the radio. I hate being forced to listen to what the media thinks is "good". I only listen to it on Saturday nights, when the Bruce Dickinson Rock Show is on hihi

Bruce Dickinson rocks!  ok

Here we only have reggeton, salsa, ballenatos, and sometimes rock which features (sum 41, offsprings, nickelback) and that kinda stuff that is quite dissapointing as rock music, so nop I dont hear radio at all.

Lol the radio is the UK is easily the worst on the planet

A playlist of 10 songs is virtually unheard of - they have the radio oin where i work and i can anticipate to within 30 mins when they will play each song.....and its always the same lot.....

Depends...

Do you consider satellite radio (sirius, to be exact) to be radio?

If you do, I listen to the radio all the time.

If you don't....no.  I don't think I've listened to terrestrial radio in months.....

I rarely do.  Like only when I forget to grab a cd before I leave the house.  There is a fairly good rock station out of Lafayette that I can get where I'm at.  I think it's 93.5 or something like that.

The only radio I ever listen to is www.therockradio.com   , when I get bored of my mp3s...I hate it when I'm in someone else's car and I'm forced to listen to the same repetitive shit over and over again...

So everybody hates radio? Grin Cool. I search some stuff about Finnish radio stations, and check out this list: http://www.radiohelsinki.fi/top%2030000.txt
"Every song ever played in Radio Helsinki twice or more until August 23rd 2005".. I'm not saying that the songs on that list are all good (well there is Guns too!), but this is a great example of a station which doesn't play same songs every day. Hope that every station would get it. Their most played song is WILCO Jesus etc., played 143 times in 4-5 years. You can hear Rebel yell 143 times in a month from Radio City hihi

I'm a DJ, so I kinda have to listen to it.  Usually I listen to it in the car and while at work, but that's about all.

At home, I have iTunes to keep me happy.

Totally agree.  If you don't have digital radio here you get either Radio 1 (shite, pure shite), Radio 2 (older shite, why people keep banging on about how it plays decent music I don't know, the playlist is as predictable as Radio 1) or local radio (pure fucking evil).  If you do have digi radio you don't get much better (Kerrang! ffs).  I only ever listen to Five Live for footy and Radio Devon for footy.  That's it, the rest of it I would like to see stopped until they get people who have a clue about music running them.  To be honest Radio 1 is blatantly run by big corporations (sorry, record companies).  When I've worked in places where Radio 1 is playing I've often considered smashing the radio up or jumping out the window.  At my last place though I took in the November Rain single (the cd player couldn't handle albums ffs) and played it every day at least once!

If I'm near a pc I'll just listen to cd's or MP3's.  If I'm in the car it's cd's.  If I'm out and about it's MP3's.

I listen more to talk radio now. I still listen to radio music while driving but stations play too many commercials now and too much crap music to listen all the time.
