Are people getting more familiar with the current lineup?  How bout when Axl introduces one of the guitarists for their solos?  Do they know who they are?  Just curious.

Well, not all of the people who go to the shows read the internet and know what is going on in the band.

Honestly, it's been a decade, and most people DO have internet access. If you're able to afford an 80$ seat chances are you have a PC or go to school/work where one is available. If they don't, they've been living under a rock and tough on them. There's also magazines and radio covering the topic so...

They have the net but they dont all go on GnR fan sites. And there is coverage but not as much as there should.

Every single one of my non fan friends could tell you the following:

Slash is gone
A guy from NIN is in the band
They had a guy with a bucket

Actually most probably don't realize that buckethead is out but they're at least over the Slash thing. And a number of them know Tommy Stinson from his 'Mats rep.

Are they up-to-date on everything? No, but like I said, it's been a decade and enough information is out there.

But I do really want to see the guy who shows up and goes "What the fuck? Where's Slash?!? Duff?? Hello... what the hell is going on here?!? Am I in the right arena? Shit I think I dropped too much 'cid."

Well, from my experience the reaction seems to be getting better as the shows go along.

The band seemed to get pretty big cheers in the intro in Oslo..

Hardly anyone I meet knows anything about GNR. When I mention the fact that im going to Inland Invasion to see GNR almost every responce is "they're back together? sweet"... and im always like "uhhh.. long story.."

The alternate responce is "Man Axl is such a jerk, too bad he kicked everyone out"... and im just like "uhhh... no comment"...

But no, I'd say the majority of people are split... those who know Slash is out and that theres a new band (but who dont know the members) and those who think GNR is reunited.

And this is in the US.. so..

Unfortunately, most of the public is not interested in the 'replacement' musicians that they are generally seen as.? At the moment....they are looking at it as though it is Axl's band playing killer songs.....hence the overload on appetite.? Only a studio album that is good with radio singles that are liked will change that perspective outside the GNR world.....of the new members as legitimate members.

Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

« Reply #10 on: July 25, 2006, 05:54:11 AM »

After the Paris show, the immense majority of people were really satisfied with the new members. I read many reviews (french fans reviews) on different french boards (not especially GNR boards, but other boards) and people were convinced by the new guys. Especially by Richard Fortus. People were also very happy for Axl, they didn't know what to expect after so many years, but they say he was just the good old Axl they loved when they were teenagers, the same guy ok

Yeah, that is the general idea. "Axl is a jerk" they say. And so I ask them how they would know that and they just says they've read some magazines. Some even dont know that Slash is not in the band, but like in Oslo, I didnt hear one Slash call and people were satisfied and didnt give a rats ass if the old guys were there. The moment was too good to be true. And EVERYONE were surprised Axl sang so good and how good he looked. I could have told them so, but I've found out people have to see and hear for themselves before they change their minds.

One friend of mine, a girl, she hated Axl like hell before Oslo. She loved Slash. Infact, we got into this huge fight before we got to know each other better about Axl and Slash. She thought I was just being arrogant about it all, like I knew so much better than her. After the show she realized that I was right and she just didn't know enough about it and I havent heard a bad word from her since. She even proclaimed that she was "friends with Axl again"? after Oslo. What a fucking waste of time!

I usually stay away from any GNR discussions with ignorant people....it's like Einstein discussing quantum physics with apes....and this goes for all regular posters and fans. We do know a whole lot more than most others do...the average Joe. When they've been fed this media bullshit for 10 years it's hopeless to start a good conversation with open hearts.

My (closest) friends do know the status GN'R at this time, cause I keep them up-to-date  hihi , but when I tell other people that I went seeing them in June, they had a reaction like: "What Guns N' Roses??? They still play? I thought they didn't exist anymore..."

When I saw them live (graspop festival), I think most people (non fans) were checking on the new guys on their skills, not really like 'we want slash' but more 'is this band as good as they were'....

My friends all really like Robin Finck's style. They really dig the hippie stuff. But then again we all really like the Devendra Banhart folk thingy. SO I think there's quite a chance for Robin to become really populair.

Buckethead was either loved to death or hated immensly. Like I told my friend, wouldnt I be hardcore if I started shouting for Buckethead in Oslo and not Slash?  hihi

I was channel-hopping the other day, and happened to pass by TMF (a music channel here in Belgium... MTV operated, so go figure...). They have these 3 minute short 'stories' about some summer festival (another one each time), and this one was about Graspop and their headliner GnR.

Now, the program isn't about spreading news, or reviews or factual information or anything, it's more about portraying the ambience at the festival in question. So this episode, they walked around the field with this really young kid. He must have been no older then 8 or something. The kid wore a GnR shirt (the one with the picture Matt used to have on his kickdrum) and was supposedly a real GnR fan. So they (the presenters) decided to dress him up as a little Axl (bandana and long haired red wig). Then they asked him if he knew any other guys in GnR, to which he replied "Slash". He then describes Slash as being 'the guy who's eyes you can't see because his hair is always in front of his face and who wears a funny hat'. The rest of the episode they go running around, trying to find a guy who looks sufficiently like Slash to be this little Axl's Slash. In the end they find a guy with long curly hair, put a silly red baseball cap on his head and let him "rock out" with the little fella...

So no, I don't think the biggest part of the general public knows GnR isn't Axl N' Slash anymore... So yeah, I guess it's a shock for some of them to see these new guys.

No, based on what the hosts put together as an act.
