How successful does Chinese Democracy need to be, in order to start a GNR revival, for the money spent on the album to be worth it, and to make the last decade worth "the recording, re-recording, mastering, re-mastering, and then repeat, repeat, and repeat over until perfection" it?

in the eyes of who? the media will never be satisfied with what GNR does....From what Ive heard from the leaks, live songs..etc..this sounds like it is going to be an amazing album...keep in mind the music business right now is shit..look whats out there....so if the public does not embrace this record right off the bat i wont be surprised....but that doesnt mean its not going to be a great album...if this turns out to be a great timeless record...that is success in itself, regardless of record sales...i do expect this record to sell well though...i think we all do....

I hope it's successful enough for a second album to come out.  How successful is that?  I have no clue...

I'm not too worried about how commercially successful it is. If I enjoy listening to it, then I'd consider it a success.

As long as it makes money, and the already cemented fan base loves it, nothing else matters.

The media is gonna bash it, and give it hell, regardless. It could be GNR's White Album, and they'd still bash it.

They bashed the Use Your Illusion albums when they were released. Yet now 15 years later, those albums are considered masterpieces along side Appetite.

It doesn't matter what they think. It will sell a fair amount at the very least, based on curiosity alone, so that's not of concern.

General criticism and review of the album is obviously going to have negative aspects simply based on the people no longer in the band, the amount of money, length of time etc. But that's not of no concern. That's their job, the lame asses that they are, for the most part (not all, MOST). Fuck them.

As long as you love it, fuck what anybody else thinks. You wear your GNR shirt, and keep being proud no matter what anyone says. That's all that matters at the end of the day.

It doesn't need to be successful to me Wink

It just need to be good. And from what I've allready heard, I'm almost sure that I'm going to like it a lot yes

The hype surrounding this album is so huge that it's almost impossible for the band to achieve what people are waiting for.

But it will do very good, I have no doubt about that beer

That's right on. Nicely put bud.
"There Was A Time" by itself, sounds like a fucking amazing song ,and if that's only a demo...man..bring it on

Your comment about the hype in particular is pretty fair. Shit like "led zeppelin created the blueprint for rock and roll in 3 or 4 hours in half that amount of time" or whatever unjustifiable comparisons are exactly what I'm expecting to see mentioned even as a footnote, but fuck what they say. I hope though, at some point there is a documentary of some sort, whether its a book, or a dvd, that will allow people to see just want went on in the 15 or whatever years CD has been in progress...endless band member changes, record company, legal issues etc etc etc
