I think this is the closest thing you'll get to something official, since I don't think RIAA has certified afd since then..

(keep in mind that this is for the states only I believe)

"March 16th, 1999 - GN'R were presented with the new Diamond Award from the RIAA, commemorating the sales of 15 million copies of "Appetite For Destruction". The award was accepted in New York by Steven Adler."

I'm guessing that worldwide sales are in excess of 30 million.....

Take in mind that it has sold 500k a year since then, so you can at least add another 4 million.

500k in the states alone a year? that isn't right....

But if you are talking about worldwide sales you could be close Smiley

It's worldwide, yeah. So let's say 15+2x2=34 at a minimum.

Yeah i read in a 2003 issue of Total Guitar that AFD was still selling 6,000 copies a week, a tad more than 5,000 a year  hihi

5,000 a year is a slap in the face... I've heard thousands any given week...

Why the hell hasn't RIAA updated since 99?!?!

If I'm not mistaken its no longer the highest selling debut album because of that...

Its either Shinah Twain or Alanis Morrisete, cant remember which...Hell mabye both

I agree. The best debut album ever....   The reason I ask is that I am have a montage framed of all AFD memorabilia that I have collected since 1987. I wanted to add a plaque detailing the album and the sales.... No offence taken.

ah cool idea man ok but sales will always increase..are you gonna keep changing the number?

anyway it was certified 15 times platinum on july 23rd 1998 by the RIAA...that is the last entry on the website anyway, unfortunately RIAA is only North America i believe, i dont think they can accuratley track world wide sales figures peace

http://www.riaa.com/gp/database/default.asp

type in appetite for destruction in the title line peace

6 a week is not possible...a month maybe but a week definately not...

6,000 a week times 4 is 24,000 a month, which would mean that afd would be in the billboard 200 all the time at the 100ish place....

I think they were reffering to world wide sales which would slim down the sales in single countries which is what billboard is based off of.  And btw billboard counts one week of sales for chart positions, so 6,000 copies per week would put it no higher than about 150 on the chart.
