Here Today...

« on: April 05, 2007, 02:19:44 PM »

I just re-read Axl's statement from December regarding the tentative 3/6/07 release date.  I have no prob that 3/6 didn't happen but the statement did say--  "If we are delayed for unseen reasons, you will also be notified as soon as possible in regard to a new date, and the album will be released as shortly thereafter as possible."   Well?

I've gotta admit, I naively believed that statement and thought, "oh good, at least we'll know what's going on now."  For some reason I thought Axl would let us know the real deal.  My bad.

I guess.  I was hoping more for something like Axl writing another open letter to the fans saying, "Sorry, we couldn't quite meet the 3/6 release date.  This is why.  We now hope to have the CD out by x/x."  Whatever, I've waited 14 years already.  What's another few months/years/decades?

Nobody got played.

The guy came out and gave us an honest assessment of where he hoped to be with his album. He was very forward in telling us that this was neither a promise nor a lie (paraphrasing here.) Define "As soon as possible" anyway. Everybody's definition of that is different. Define "notified". Did it ever occur to you that "Notifying" could be something as simple as a ten second leak of a newly mixed CD? Did "notified" have to be a standard verbal announcement?

Members of the band have said "Sooner than you think". Axl has said it is being mixed. You have a leak of what surely sounds like a mix (maybe or maybe not final). It's obvious that something is happening right now. In case you have not figured out, Axl/GnR to do necessarily have conventional fan interaction. I know that may be obvious to some people, but after all these years, many still seemed surprised that this is the case-maybe the problem is the fans and not the band here.

^ I thought those leaks were like 4/5 years old ?

Do you really believe that's the way the band would say "things are going as planed, look, here's 10 sec of a track" ? I don't think so. That was just an asshole playing on the web because he got, someway, access to some old demo material. Case closed.

^ That's a true update, right there.

Some leaks are old, some certainly appear to be new.

I don't know what to believe, but I don't have my panties in a wad over how I think Axl should be corresponding with his fan base.

How do you know how it came on the web anymore than I do? You are going to correct me on an opinion, with your opinion?  Roll Eyes

^ Isn't that what that guy from gnrsucks.com did ?

He's the one who was parading on the web with the clip and his site's intro.

The band stated in the post "The truth about Better" that they never leaked anything. I just choose to believe them.

A lot of people will put their hands on tracks from CD, and will try to take them.

Right but you are stating it as fact, while I am presenting mine as opinion.

Anyway...whatever.

There really is no  reason for the band or Axl to "play" us. Things happen along the way that can lead to delays, and anyway, I am sure that Axl will want to take the time to put out the best product possible. Am I defending him? No, I want the album  as much as anyone. But to say we  are being "played" is going too far and neither realistic nor rational from the band's  standpoint. They have  nothing to gain from "playing" the fanbase or the world, for  that matter. To go on record  that  the album is coming and then not deliver would be commercial suicide.

I think you're on to something here. To me it's pretty funny that fans are demanding updates on the band's process and what they do at all times. Did this happen in the past? No. They spoke when they wanted to, in magazines, as their right is. They don't owe us anything. Just because the internet exists now doesn't mean they have some sort of responsibility to keep us updated on every single detail. I think they have done a fine job lately with updating us on their site, and that is more than enough. They have shown a lot of appreciation for the fans too, but I guess some ungrateful people choose to ignore that.

ya.. totally.  the updates in the last year ever since Axl went on the radio with Eddie Trunk have been like 10 times what we got in the last fuckin 10 years!   maybe its not as often as some would like, but people cant' say they never update the fans.   they don't have any obligation to do anything.
