Catcher In The Rye

« on: May 07, 2007, 12:36:14 AM »

I ordered a new laptop, that has a Windows Vista Operating system.

I've heard that many recording programs such as Sony ACID, and some other programs don't work on it.
Does anyone know if Powertab, Firefox, Utorrent, or itunes will work on the system?

Is there a site out there that i can read about the latest problems?
I know the earlier days of the operating system and lots of bugs, I just hope its cleaned itself up a bit.

Any help would be greatful.

my girlfriend did the same thing last night, it takes forever to start up lol. (first time start up like)

and when you finally get onto the desk top you get bombarded with like 12 proccesses which all load up at once n it gets crashy.

though one cool thing is with vista, it actually lists what proccess its on out of how many more youve got to go.

Why bother? Stick with XP. Vista doesn't have anything new unless you want your computer to run __slower__.

Hey, it lets you put a giant clock on the desktop! Just what we all need, a constant reminder of exactly how much time we waste dicking around on the computer.

I'd hold off until the first SP is released. If you dont have a choice (only OEM OS option) then you can pay a few extra dollars and have them send you the XP and Vista Media. You can then turn back your install to XP (you are fully licensed for that out of the box) and then once they kinks are worked out... upgrade back to Vista.

Just make sure it has A LOT of ram. I am not even slightly kidding.  Running it on 512 is like running xp on 256 1GB is like xp on 512 it works but kinda slow 2GB is like xp on 1GB wow what a difference.

It would take a lot more time than you...

A lot of people complain about Vista, but I think it's the best damn operating system -any- company has released, bar none.

It's still young, I am dual booting between XP and Vista, but I use Vista most of the time; whenever I can.  Pro Tools doesn't support Vista yet, and that's the main reason I still use XP.

It's a good operating system.  It's not absolutely stable yet, but it's getting there, and it's based on a more solid code base than XP, so it will get there.  Don't listen to what people say.  Don't listen to the press.  It's a good operating system.

I think the first SP is due in the second half of this year. Thats when i'd really start to look at Vista. I think its always a good rule to wait to the first service pack to adopt new windows operating systems.
