More than meets the eye

To original poster:

Because they are terrorists.  Regardless of our means, they are still terrorists that are responsible for attacks on our people on our soil.  How could you possible wonder "how"?  You can be against water boarding, but certainly you must be against the people that attacked us even more?  Where do your allegiance lie?  With known terrorists?

 Roll Eyes

Terrorists?

Says who?

Which court convicted them?

I think the seclusion of one of these super max prisons would drive most men insane. Let them live the remainder of their lives like that.

True liberal you are, to really make youself look like a hypocritical prat you should have finished that sentence with

''....oh and by the way, stoning someone for murder is evil!''

My question for you Izzy:  What would you like us to do with these men?  Sure, mistakes have been made (I'm frequently a vocal critic of the policies of George W. Bush) but what is it you'd like done with these men?  Would you like us to apologize to them and let them go on their merry way?  Seriously.  I do want to hear your solution.

I'd hand them over to a neutral country for trial - where the CIA cant influence things, and I'd accept that no fair court on earth would convict them now

I love the way people only need Bush and Fox news to denounce someone as a terrorist to make that so

I'll wait for a guilty verdict from a fair court - untill that day these men are nothing more than suspects, they are not good, they are not bad - thats for a judge and jury to decide

I suppose all these loons so eager to judge them have waded through all the evidence, are they guilty - or do you just hope they are?

How dare people condemn others for crimes they have never been convicted of! - If Fox news labels you a terrorist, does that make it so? Wouldnt you want people to wait untill after the trial before they condemned you?

....i'll leave u with one final point

If these men are guilty, if the evidence is so uneqivocal...

....then why has it taken YEARS for charges to be brought?

Sorry, but no.

The jury doesn't decide if they're good or bad, terrorists or just innocent people we've captured.  The jury just decides whether there's enough evidence to prove them guilty.  A jury may decide their legal status, but it does not dictate truth.  If it did, no innocent person would ever be convicted, and no guilty person would ever go free.  Bin Laden also has not been convicted in a courtroom.  That doesn't make him any less a terrorist?  Or is it possible that he is a terrorist now and up to and through any trial, whether he's found guilty or not?

I can appreciate the fact that you're troubled by the way this has taken place, as am I.  But to suggest that these are just trumped up charges is completely false.

Someone brought this up on the previous page.  It's a Presidential election year.

Scaring the citizens of this country with ongoing terrorism is key for the Republican strategy.

That being said, do you HONESTLY believe that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed deserves a fair trial?Huh??

From the BBC:

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's '31 plots'
The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, has admitted his role in them, and 30 other terror plots around the world, in a hearing at Guantanamo Bay, the Pentagon has said. According to partial transcript of the closed-door hearing, released by the US defence department, the suspect confessed to the following attacks or plots.

1. The 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City that killed six people and injured more than 1,000.

2. The 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington using four hijacked commercial airliners. Nearly 3,000 people were killed.

3. A failed "shoe bomber" operation to bring down two US commercial airliners.

4. The October 2002 attack in Kuwait that killed two US soldiers.

5. The nightclub bombing in Bali, Indonesia that killed 202 people.

6. A plan for a "second wave" of attacks on major US landmarks after 9/11 attacks. Alleged targets included the Library Tower in Los Angeles, the Sears Tower in Chicago, the Plaza Bank building in Seattle and the Empire State Building in New York.

7. Plots to attack oil tankers and US naval ships in the Straits of Hormuz, the Straits of Gibraltar and in Singapore.

8. A plan to blow up the Panama Canal.

9. Plans to assassinate former US presidents including Jimmy Carter.

10. A plot to blow up suspension bridges in New York.

11. A plan to destroy the Sears Tower in Chicago by burning fuel trucks beneath or around it.

12. Plans to "destroy" Heathrow Airport, Canary Wharf and Big Ben in London.

13. A planned attack on "many" nightclubs in Thailand targeting US and British citizens.

14. A plot targeting the New York Stock Exchange and other US financial targets after 9/11.

15. A plan to destroy buildings in Elat, Israel, by using planes flying from Saudi Arabia.

16. Plans to destroy US embassies in Indonesia, Australia and Japan.

17. Plots to destroy Israeli embassies in India, Azerbaijan, the Philippines and Australia.

18. Surveying and financing an attack on an Israeli El-Al flight from Bangkok.

19. Sending several "mujahideen" into Israel to survey "strategic targets" with the intention of attacking them.

20. The November 2002 suicide bombing of a hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, frequented by Israelis. At least 14 people were killed.

21. The failed attempt to shoot down an Israeli passenger jet leaving Mombasa airport with a surface-to-air missile on the same day as the hotel bombing.

22. Plans to attack US targets in South Korea, such as US military bases and nightclubs frequented by US soldiers.

23. Providing financial support for a plan to attack US, British and Jewish targets in Turkey.

24. Surveillance of US nuclear power plants in order to attack them.

25. A plot to attack Nato's headquarters in Europe.

26. Planning and surveillance in a 1995 plan (the "Bojinka Operation") to bomb 12 American passenger jets, most on trans-Pacific Ocean routes.

27. The planned assassination attempt against then-US President Bill Clinton during a mid-1990s trip to the Philippines.

28. "Shared responsibility" for a plot to kill Pope John Paul II while he visited the Philippines.

29. Plans to assassinate Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

30. An attempt to attack a US oil company in Sumatra, Indonesia, "owned by the Jewish former [US] Secretary of State Henry Kissinger".

31. The beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped in Pakistan in January 2002 while researching Islamist militancy.

I understand the subject of this thread is quite serious, but I can't help laughing at the fact they felt it necessary to name Carter.

rofl  Hey, I didn't write the article, don't shoot the messenger! Wink

My point is that if interrogating this guy gathered THIS much information then I would tend to think he should be tried on at least some of it.  Even if he made up HALF of it because of the interrogation methods wouldn't it still be enough?

I also read that he personally initially gave info of his involvement in 911 to Al Jazeera which then led to him being captured in Pakistan and then taken to Guantanamo.  I admit, I had to do some catch up reading on this since it's been a few years since this initially made headlines.

What's hypocritical? These men should be tried for their crimes, in a court of law and if found guilty, IMO should rot in prison.

Lay off the angry sauce.

Liberal in the US and UK mean totally different things.  But apart from that, what do you propose that we do with those found guilty of terrorism?

..and YES, i do believe he is entitled to a fair trail

HE stated to Al Jazeera he was the mastermind of 911.  Anything obtained after that was just icing on the cake.

From 2003:

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/south/03/02/mohammed.biog/

September 11 boast
Last September, Yosri Fouda, a reporter for the Arab-language Al-Jazeera television network, said he interviewed Mohammed while making a documentary for the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Fouda said Mohammed introduced himself as the head of the al Qaeda military committee. He told Fouda that he attended the meeting, complete with details, in which the decision was made to strike at America inside America.

Coalition intelligence confirmed Mohammed's presence at the meeting.

Now forget even the supposed 31 plots for a moment.  Before being captured, before being tortured he states his role willingly.  Now he is being tried for it and more.  Again I say, even if 30 of 31 plots are false or information he stated under duress, is his own confession NOT enough?  That he boasted that he played a major role in the death of 3000+?HuhHuhHuhHuh??

Stick 'em away in one of those super max prisons and they can rot away in there.

Agree 100%.  That's exactly what I'd like to see done with this 6.  However, they would be dead in a week in any max prison in the US.

A trial is not needed to prove that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is guilty of terrorism.  He's admitted to it without being waterboarded.  He's admitted to it before and after waterboarding.  These 6 should be damn thankful the US waited so long to try them.

Putting them in a room and throwing away the key is probably the biggest punishment you can inflict. Why execute them? That would be way too merciful. These guys think they get 72 virgins when they die, so death does not scare them.

If it wasn't for your NY Giants helmet as your screen pic, I would have considered this a perfect post.   hihi  (those bastards cost me $29 on Super Bowl Sunday!)

Was it Family Guy where the terrorist walks into heaven only to find 72 Trekkie nerds sitting around computers?  Great stuff.
