Use Your Illusion I (1991)

Hopefully they aren't relying on the prestige of the album and it's journey to promote this thing?

ROck Band 2 was a wise move, so was Body of Lies.

They need a little more though. It's coming, and I want C.D. to be sucessful.

I think it is going to be!

So much of this seems contrived but brillaint to me.   The lack of announcement but so many other avenues of confirmation seem like part of a big master plan.  Watch AXLs post VMA interview from 2002.  He seems so clear about what is happening now.  I think this whole release is so fascinating.

the last minute basically is the interview with Kurt Loder.  He layed out a lot of the issues at hand.  He never gave any info on  a release.

Man was his voice in rough shape that night. What a change it was in 06 and 07.

Didn't it turn out he was trying to protect his voice throughout 2002?

He was out of shape (see gut hanging out under shirt), and had not performed under rigorous tour conditions in years.  '06/'07 - vocal coach, and getting into shape, he was back to 'old' Axl...if not better.  Can't wait to see what 'marketing' the band kicks off...and where the '09 tour kicks off (Oh wait, RS wasn't supposed to tell us that!) - dates/venues.

I think what AC/DC did with Sirus and XM having their own channel for a limited time. They play a few song from the new album Black Ice. I heard a few songs I never heard befor. Also they played some live songs and also every day did a thing called this day in AC/DC history. I think it would be cool if Guns N' Roses did this not only for the fans but for new fans also.

I think they're going to wait until a couple weeks before the album will be released until they start with a heavy marketing campaign

People these days have the attention span of a mosquito so hammering them over the head months in advance just means they'll lose interest by the time the album's actually out

Metallica was pretty smart about the way they handled it.  Sure, they had some snippets and some smaller scale stuff, but they didn't release their single until a couple weeks prior to the album.  Obviously they talked up the album a lot more but Lars and James love to hear themselves talk so that's no surprise.  Point is that the real marketing blitz didn't begin until a couple weeks before the album.  Same with AC/DC, they had a single out about a month in advance but I didn't see that much marketing until this last week, now I've seen their Wal-Mart ad about 10 times in on TV in the past 7 days

GnR has done some things to get their music out there to various audiences, in ways that are actually making them money.  They are the ones making the profit off of Rock Band and Body of Lies.  I don't expect the big budget marketing campaign to commence until 2-3 weeks prior to the album, and then there will be an all out blitz

Yeah, we still have a month to go. I'm not worried about marketing; things might seem slow right now, but at some point they're going to explode. Best Buy didn't buy exclusive rights to the album to just put it on their shelves without telling anyone. I expect there to be commercials all over TV, ads in magazines, newspapers, all that stuff; plus giant pictures of GNR all over the front of Best Buy and everywhere in their store. They will definitely get the word out. And considering the cd comes out during the biggest shopping week of the year, plenty of people are going to see it.

A lot of people seem to know about AC/DC's new album, even people who don't listen to their music. In one of my classes today, the teacher somehow veered off into music, and the lack of good rock nowadays, and a couple of black guys in the class mentioned the new AC/DC album coming out. Everybody else in the class seemed to know about the new album, too--- and I think I'm pretty much the only real rock fan in there. I've seen a lot of ads for AC/DC on TV and various places. USA Today recently had an article about the band and their new CD.

Soon they'll be a single probably, along with a video . . . Magazines will run articles about it . . . Axl might be on the cover of Rolling Stone . . . Maybe a few performances on late-night TV . . .

"Shackler's Revenge" in Rock Band 2, "If the World" in Body of Lies . . . those are just two flashes of lightning before the real storm hits.
