I think it has a lot to do with our natural arrogance, as said before, but also because we all use the fact that we don't have to confront one another in person to our advantage. It makes for tons of ignorant and rude people on here though.

I was listening to a Rush Limbaugh clone on local station today, and just realized, radio shows have a similar problem with people who cannot disagree politely, even when their point is clearly lost (or made) - major difference being, when they throw a tantrum, the call gets cut off. On a message board it just keeps going, and going, and going....
