Has anyone else here heard Mastodon's new album Leviathan?  I've just given it a first listen and it's got to be one of the best metal albums for years.  I've never heard an album like it, it's got a hint of Metallica (pre-Black album) and even a hint of Tool.  It's got good songs, excellent musicianship and it's just great basically.  The only thing I'm not too keen on is the vocals, but they suit the music and the lyrics are entertaining.  My copy's got a 2nd disc which is Audio DVD, but I haven't watched it yet.

This really is some original, new music and a new band to get excited about, hopefully there's more of this to come.

I saw Mastodon last night and they are awesome.  Izzy, clean your ears out and get the album dammit!

They're ready for the big stage now.  A tour supporting Slayer and Shitknot, album of the year 2004 in Kerrang and Terrorizer.  I can guarantee you wouldn't regret getting Leviathan.  This is what should be at the forefront of 'new' music, not shite like Limp Bizkit, Franz Ferdinand and Keane.  Proper musicianship.

Fucking kickass band. Sad i missed them this tour, hopefully i get to see them this summer... again.
