Big, hot summer action movies have historically been great vehicles for GN'R single releases. It's win-win. The fans go see a great movie cause it's got GN'R music in it; the band gets a high level of publicity for being associated with a popular movie.

One movie this year that I think a new Guns single, if they are to do any music, would fit would be the sequel to Independence Day. It, like GN'R, is reborn. It's looking to be a huge movie (the original film did 800 mil back in '96 - this sequel is sure to rake in a billion). Having a new GN'R song by the rebooted lineup would not only garner publicity, but would expand the song's access to an audience way beyond that of their normal fans, which, if catchy enough a song, could create a new hit. Also, the sequel comes out in June, right around the time that it is rumored GN'R will be touring.

I just think with a brand new single on a hot mega success film, it could help GN'R and also help sell concert tickets. Look at what they did with the Star Wars promo. Attracting the younger audience is something they definitely should do, and this would be a good way to do it, since ID4 2's audience will probably be 18-35 year olds.

Regardless of what you think about the film, it's going be a mega hit, released in the summer, backed by nostalgia and the fact that most of the original cast is recording. It would be a great way for a new GNR single to reach a wide market and audience and reintroduce the band after an 8 year absence musically.

Choosing Terminator 2 to promote Illusions through You could be mine was a brilliant marketing move back then.
Hardly any new film will have that same impact as that all-time classic movie.I mean damn, watching T2 even now is exciting.I don't think Independence day will be timeless.
I'd suggest that a better promotion would be something with the Olympics coming up in Rio than a new film.

The trailer for Independence Day 2 has 1.9 millions views on youtube.
Having a song in it that is recognizable definitely helps, though to what extent, who knows.

That said I'm not convinced we're getting any new music in time for this particular film.

What about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? What about the Tarantino movie after the next one, whatever it might be?
The Fast and The Furious 10?

Maybe they'll make a new Transformers vs Harry Potter movie where they'll ask GN'R for s song? Should they?
Maybe Tom Hanks will make a movie called Forrest Trump about a little boy who had a tough life because he only had a little loan of one million to make it on.... Should GN'R have a song in it?

 Tongue

Seriously though. Remember when Axl let Mickey Rourke use Sweet Child O' Mine in the Wrestler? Great movie. Maybe not as popular as the ID4 movie(s), but still remembered.

Soundgarden's comeback song was Live to Rise on The Avengers. Hope to see something similar in this situation.

Movie soundtracks aren't what they used to be in terms of creating a buzz.  Even when End of Days came out and Oh My God was on the soundtrack, it wasn't the same as 1989, when Arnold was in T2 and "You Could Be Mine" was actually incorporated into a movie sequence.

That being said, I would never say no to a new GNR release!   ok

The movie will do ok, but not be a mega hit. I would rather hear a GNR song from  a big hit movie. Get "Civil War" on "Civil War". That movie will be much bigger.

This. I'd rather have a song in a good movie than in a shallow blockbuster.

But if i needs to be a blockbuster, there's tons of good ones - or at least better than ID4. Like the next X-men movie, wich will be set in the '80s - what a perfect way to release a new track sounding like AFD? Smiley

I hope not
This movie is gonna blow dog
The original did well and had Will Smith in his prime
This reaks of trying to bring out the dead and cash in on something already done a million times..not exactly what I want Gn'r associated with
