Im pretty sure with labels, managers, agents, contracts etc - bands at Faith No More's level at that point, will get told what shows they are doing and who they are supporting.... They can however do everything they can to get thrown off the tour. They were against that mainstream stuff, so in that logic they did show it with actions..... So it makes the 'im against the mainstream but take advantage of it to further our career' point completely void.
A label can't forcibly take you out of your house and drive you to the gig.  Bands at their level at the time say no to tours every day.

I would just love to know how Axl reacted to this back then.

I have a feeling he's re-writing "history" to some degree..These antics, if they happened, probably didn't fulfill his expectations therefore GNR probably were unaware of this small man and his quest for notoriety...Bye the way I like FNM...

Reminds a bit of the Nirvana sh*t back in the day too...Axl was always praising that band and this one too...just a shame and a waste of time

Kinda typical "we're against the mainstream but will take advantage of it to further our own career" crap.

If you're so against that, show it with actions. Don't go open for GN'R to play in front of the biggest crowds.
But of course that wouldn't generate headlines....

My thoughts exactly.

Don't get me started on Nirvana.
