Just a thought about how the rumour of Buckethead leaving could affect ticket sales for the Lisbon show - and fuck up the relationship with the (or at least some) fans forever.

No one knows for sure if Buckethead is in or out. No one knows for sure if Guns N' Roses will perform in Lisbon. No one knows anything for sure, but the faithful ones save and spend their money for that very day, take three days off, call in sick, travel across Europe or whatever...JUST TO SEE THE FUCKING BAND!

Thousands of people come to Lisbon ONLY TO SEE GN'R!!!

Does the band even know that?

For the record, this is not going to be some 20.000+ audience like Philadelphia '02. In Lisbon, there will be about 100.000 people from all over Europe.

What the fuck do you think these people come for that day? Evanescence?

100.000 PEOPLE!!!

100.000 FANS!!!

The band is announced OFFICIALLY on the website and ads in the streets, flyers, ads and posters have their name on. The entire festival is promoted with the Guns N' Roses name, they are HEADLINING THE FESTIVAL along with Paul McCartney and fucking Metallica.

Did the band or the management OFFICIALLY confirm that performance? NO!

Official website, press release, anything? NO!

All we have is the promoters word, and he'd not be the first promoter to be proven wrong.

So still no one knows anything for sure, and the band remains silent.

Don't you think it's REALLY time for the band or their management to speak out NOW? If they can't say anything about Buckethead, they could at least confirm if Guns N' Roses will perform at Lisbon at all or not - whatever line-up it's going to be.

Or...well...or maybe I should just stop fucking caring.

I'd like to hear what the people who already bought (or planned to buy) tickets to Lisbon think about the situation.

I for one am just an unemployed fuck who can not spend 500,- bucks (two tix, two plane tix plus hotel) on a fucking LOTTERY!!!

I'd give my right arm to see this band, but NOT UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!

 rant

I understand there's probably a lot going on behind the scenes, and that the band is surely very busy with the GH and all at the moment.

But the whole situation is nothing but playing games with the fans, their feelings, their support and their loyalty.

I'm not going to be there, but for me Lisbon remains the last and final deadline.

What's yours?

The thing is, the band and/or management won't say anything unless the situation changes.

I guess until they say something, GN'R are appearing there.

If they were cancelling, they should've done it as soon as they found out about the show and/or line up changes.

But this band has cancelled shows just hours before they were supposed to start so nothing surprises me anymore.

it would be nice to hear them say something but it is not really necessery.  i believe that this RiR thing is running and the GNR managment would allow that much publicity in Portugal if it isn`t true.

but i am not going. I am living in germany and it is rather cheap to travel to Portugal with the train but i will not. it is because i don`t belive nothing. if BH left and Axl changes his mind I don`t want to be the idiot who went there to see Evanesence.

But RiR is my deadline. if they don`t show up there, then I see no future.

Two things.

A. This is the same GNR management that allowed for the publicity for a European tour (of which, the dates are STILL on gnronline) that never happened because the talent said he 'never knew about it'

B. I love GNR as much as anyone else - but did you HAVE to slip the Evanescence dig in there?  If you go beyond Bring me to Life (The only Amy Lee on vocals version of that track is 10x better, btw) & My Immortal, their material is actually pretty deep.  The chick has can sing like no one's business.  And, come on, give a LITTLE BIT of credit - they are from freaking Little Rock, Arkansas!  If ever there was a bigger mismatch, it would have to be Hard Rock king W. Axl Rose who comes from.... Lafayette Indiana??

Yeah, I like Evanescence.. sue me.

I think that if they aren't going to be there, we will be told in advance. This isn't the same as the 2002 tour where it was last minute. If they cancel it will be because of this Buckethead thing, and we will be told by management. Just like those european shows that got cancelled.

If Buckethead has left, they seem to either not be bothered and are carrying on as normal, or they are trying to get him back in. I'd think if he was definately out, and it was a problem, they wouldn't be saying 'plans haven't changed' (if you can take anything from that).

Our problem , is that more than ever now, we need some sort of proper statement from management or Axl, and we haven't had one since 2002. Patience has run out. WE NEED TO BE TOLD!

cool, but since people are travveling from all over the world they have a huge responabillity to inform. when all this shit is going on i mean.

for rir sake too, people might not buy tickets because it's so uncertain if they'll show or not..

it doesn't cost them jack shit to just say "no plans have changed when it comes to lisbon"... they way it is now, we don't know...

conny, Don't take this the wrong way - but I don't think you quite understand the thing with RIR.

RIR is one of those 'event' type things.. like the olympics, or Lollapalooza, or Ozzfest, or whatever.  Its almost as if the 'event' overshadows the acts performing.

I'm not suggesting that 100,000 people would come to see Evanescence play (or, any specific band) - but that a good # of the people there would be there no matter WHO was performing.  It becomes more about "I was at RIR" than "I saw X band at RIR"

It is my contention that you take ANY band with a reasonable amount of name recognition and throw them in there and they still sell the 100,000 + tickets for that specific day.  And, if you had 'Evanescence' up there right next to Britney Spears & Metallica as the 'headliners' - you wouldn't see one iota of difference in ticket sales, save for about 10 hardcore gunners who decided not to go.

Again, its NOT Evanescence I'm trying to single out here - its the specific 'vibe' RIR gives off.

Things should not be this way though. The management should confirm officially any show the band is doing, but should also announce something in case the situation changes. They have (sometimes) the second part ok but the first part is missing since...2002?

conny, *YOU* might not care about how much of an 'event' RIR is.. but the thing is, the majority of the atendees do.  You, yourself, said that "THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COME JUST TO SEE GNR" - and I say to you, I think you're wrong.  You're talking about a guy who could 1/2 fill most arenas on his last, aborted U.S. tour (MSG being a sellout, yes - and so was Philly - but.. well.. we wont talk about Philly, will we?)

I think you're vastly over-estimating the 'GNR factor' anymore.  Had this been 10 years ago - or even 2 years ago.. then yeah, maybe I'd believe a couple thousand people showed up for no other reason than to see the red headed recluse.  Bottom line is, as of today, as in right now, if you were to poll your prime demographic for concert-goers (16-26 or so) I can pretty much assure you more of them know the name 'Evanescence' than they do 'GNR' - whether you want to blame Axl for that, or the media, or MTV, or the general public, that's fine.

But the fact remains - Axl ain't the draw he used to be.. and bands like Evanescence are becoming the new 'in' thing - regardless of how you or I might feel about it.

Darknemus, the real question is how much Gnr is getting paid to be there......I'll bet it is pretty good money...probably better than "Evanesence". Smiley "In" or out...cool or uncool....it is all about the Benjamins. Smiley

For the sake of the topic - wich isn't about fucking Evanescence or RIR (as a festival) at all - if you want to, then let's just discuss this seperately in "Bad Obsession" or via PM, ok?

why don`t we talk about WHAT will happen in Lisboa if the don`t show up. I mean if it is not cancelled and the 100.000 people wait to see them but they don`t show up and then some guy goes on the stage and says: Sorry, but Axl is not here yet...

We all know Roberto Medina and axl are close friends, so i think this whole thing was set and sealed because of friendly trust... if axl doesn't show, he will not only fuck his fans in the ass, but also his close friend Roberto Medina.

Now that bucket is gone, i bet Medina is sweating pretty heavily  hihi

darknemus, STOP calling Axl a fucking recluse, and comparing GNR with bands like Evanescense. Mate, dude, fella, brother, in a way, i hope GNR fails because........other threads are suggesting the likes off WES BORLAND as a replace for ol' BH( if thats the case) in the band. People are tooooooooooooooooooo worried about todays trends and i know Axl doesnt give a flying fuck about the trends, man fuck people who are thinking this shit. PEOPLE, be yourself and fuck the trends...fuck it. Im sorry 'bout baggin' n' shit but the only person i consider a worthy poster is Masterion, but most people dont respect your posting...eg
" i dont know what it means, maybee he cant leave."
Get a fuckin' hint and stop questioning the man. Yeah its friday, im drunk,  all i want in the world is my favourite album, and i havent even heard it yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Lets stop bagging them until an official statment happens...i know it may not happen but lets stop this B.S.
IT IS NOT official that BH is gone,
IT IS official (IMO) that GNR are playing,(dizzy clarified it, it was the only thing he could mention in that fucked up interview in Chicago) (i think, im sorry)
IT IS official that GNR are stiil together
AND IT IS STILL official alot of people on this site are a bunch of fuckin' wankers...my self included but hey, lets just keep the respect happenin' otay.

Axl doesn't care if he causes fans to waste money on travel expenses when he is not going to show.  Axl doesn't care about adding stress to someone who is not sure if he'll show up or not.  He just doesn't care.

Oh wait, I am sure someone will say "for legal reasons Axl can't say if he'll show to his own concert.  RLMAO!!!!

No, first they'll flame you, then they'll say you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, then they'll say that he does care about the fans.

Then they'll say why should Axl confirm the gig when he'd look bad if he confirms, but then cancels anyway. In other words, he's such a fuck-up he can't reveal any future plans because he doesn't have his shit together enough to carry them out, so why mention them only to look bad later.

Anything to excuse his lame-ass.

What a dumb thing to say.
You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
He does care about the fans.
Sorry, had to do it  Grin

Anyway, people who are going to just see GNR should know there will always be a risk of him not showing up. It's the same for any concert (well, maybe a better chance with Axl). The way I see it, RIR would be the perfect risk to take to see GNR. If they don't show, there are plenty of other bands to see.

dark has a good point, most of you are overestimating the amount of people who will be at Lisbon to see Guns N' Roses. Fact is people will be there because it is "Rock in Rio", same reason that people drove all over the United States to go to the last 2 Woodstock shows, they in themselves are events. There is more going on at these types of shows than just the music.

I personally don't care what they release for info on the Rio show, but for the love of all things good and holy, just update us on the status of the band..........are there any members? Are they holding auditions for GnR 3.0? Did Axl turn around and sell the GnR name to a guy on the side of the road for 10 dollars, a bottle of nightrain and a BJ??

All I ask for is a status update.

Here is another rumor from Mygnrforum.. Who says something else...

Last night Dizzy was interviewed by some one from Alt.gnr newsgroup

Some of the highlights were

Dizzy said their is a replacement for Buckethead
Dizzy said that Band rehearsals start next month
Dizzy said Chinese Democracy is done and all that has to be done is Axl giving it the go.

Good news in though times for GNR Fans

Thanks GoLaLa

Wasn't there an interview with Slash/Duff/Matt recently where one of them said that they heard Axl was trying to get new musicians for the Lisbon gig?

It seems like 2003/early 2004 could = finding replacement/rerecording parts.

They may have just not wanted to talk about it, they'd have rather covered up the fact that Bucket is gone and then played really good at RIR so it "doesn't matter" when they the new player took off the mask, bucket, and yellow jacket when Axl says "check out the new guitar player! Thought it was Buckethead, didn't ya? Well, he's gone."

I know a lot of people who would rather not say anything bad about something until they prove the way they do it is better, and Axl has got to be 20 times as bullheaded as any of them.

Proideman, PhillyRiot and others like Booker....we realists have taken a beating here haven't we?  We have been voices of steady reason and realistic expectations in a sea of optomisim and unrelenting misplaced euphoria.

You are an elitist and you believe you are smarter than everyone here. Your posts are snotty. Your attitude pisses people off. You take people's posts and "agree 100%" with them, but misconstrue them so they mean what you want them to mean.

I think YOU get a lot of shit because you are an ass.

Fair enough.  When you are right all the time like me...you expect backlash from others who are jealous of your intelligence.   rofl  Get serious.  I'm not an elitist and I never misconstrue posts.  Instead of giving me (or any of the other realists) shit, a simple "you know you were right about Axl being incapable of pulling this off" reply would have work.

Seriouslythough, keep the faith Peter Coffin.  I take it that you are an axl ball swinger.  Good for you.  ok   Hey..don't get too upset about these recent developments dude...I bet Axl has a master plan.  I bet it was his plan all along for the VMAs to go horribly...for the tour to fail...for BH to leave.   I'm sure if you just wait another 3 or 4 months you will have CD in hand.  Just be positive dude.  Its coming.  Axl loves you.  This is the year dude!  Axl rules.  Axl loves you.  It was Slash's fault.

Give me a fucking break....open your eyes, and before you rip into me, remember, it is still hard being right all the time so take it easy on me.

I won't take it easy on you. I'll take it easy on Booker, when I read his posts, I hear someone who is saying these things intelligently and not to instigate. But when I say, read your stuff, I think "wow. he's an ass."

This is exactly what I am talking about. You automatically take my post and use it as "you are an idiot and you must have Axls cock down your throat because you said something contradicting me! I AM THE MIGHTY TULIP! LOOK AT MY JARMO RIP-OFF SIG!"

I am no Axl ballswinger. It's Axl's fault. He has no plan, he's insane. He has pulled out all the stops on his nutty rollercoaster.

But taking Axl completely out of the equasion, I just think posting about how you are one of the few voices of reason and always right is self-important, arrogant, and asinine. Ass.

Very true.   Wink

I did say it as a joke even though I didn't use any emoticons to show that...but still very true.  And I apologize that I offended you.   Keep the faith.  CD is right around the corner.  I can feel it.

Fuck you. I'm done with this.

Peter, Peter, Peter...come now.....I must have hit a nerve fanboy.  Put away the hostility and embrace optimism.  Be positive like me.

I think that if you just pray a little harder tonight, maybe tomorrow Axl will release CD.   We are getting close good buddy.  I can almost taste it.  Man Axl has it all figured out.  He is on top of his game now.

During your nightly prayer session to your god (Axl of course), ask that you might better be able to follow the rules and keep from name calling.

I hope you two do stop now for obvious reasons.

Agreed, but it won't happen because it would make sense. Axl will rant, I wouldn't be suprised if the rant will be the longest of his ramblings thus far.

It does very much chap my hide that they could easily write two paragraphs, put it on the wire, and people would know what the hell is going on. I don't get why they don't do it. If I were in PR/management for GnR, I'd probably at least attempt damage control. Maybe they are fed up with it as well. It is possible that they are just waiting for what Axl will do to worry about what they have to do. I wonder if he and management even talk that much.

This situation is truly intriguing to me.

Also, Jarmo, I apologize for the message I posted after you posted to stop.

What happened to what ever reply happened after that message?

I have to disagree with the comments that a lot of ppl will be at RIR to say "I saw RIR", not "I saw GNR". I think a lot, if not most, are there to see GNR  ok

Mysteron, can you clear up the RIR4 questions for us?  Do you think they will actually play this show and are they going to confirm anything on GN'R anytime soon?

The management's answer to questions about RIR4 is that the plans haven't changed.

I bet that there is a lot going on we don`t know about, thus the reason we are noh hearing anything official. Maybe Axl is in the process of trying to pursuade Buckethead to not call it quits permanently.

Then again, not hearing anything is normal from GNR so as usual, we fans are in the dark on everything yet again.

GNR fans have to be the most resillient fans around !
