Classic Rock (UK) March 2004
Pg. 80

"So alright, we've all got 30 great songs stored away in our private attic studio in Malibu, Axl, and we're gonna change the face of popular music permanently and forever. But if the public doesn't get to hear it what does it mean?"

DLR is right, its like having a million dollars and not being able to spend it, fuckin worthless if no one else can hear the songs, doesnt matter how good they are, the songs arent doing anyone anygood if axl doesnt let anyone hear em

At the very least, you've gotta respect DLR's objective, if slighty off-kilter perspective.

If a sold out MSG show with 18 thousand singing every word to every one of your songs didn't inspire a release, nothing will.

yeah, if not MSG, certainly not david lee roth.
if axl listens to or cares what DLR has to say, we're in more trouble than we thought.

Slag the man if you will...but at least he put out an album last year.  Thats more than you can say for Axl in the past TEN years.  And at least Dave had the courage to strike out on his own...(which is what Axl has basically done) and not senselessly cling to the name of the band that showcased his past glory.

DLR is a crazy motherfucker. Thats probably why I always liked him.

Yea he is right about Axl. My question is this.

How does Roth know that Axl has "30 great songs stored away" that is "gonna change the face of popular music permanently and forever"?

How does he know this? I would like to think this is true. But what has Roth heard?

Dave's always a great interview. An interesting thing about him breaking out on his own is the fact that the idea to call the band Van Halen was entirely his idea, and it took him some time to convince Ed and Alex to go with it.

WHO CARES WHAT SOME OLD WASHED UP ROCK STAR HAS TO SAY!!!!!!!!!

There's a certain irony there  Grin

DLR rules. Hasn't changed a bit. Still cringes at Gary Shamone's 'Van Halen'. Still makes outlandish and comical comments. Still rocks hard... beer

Maybe David got to hear some of theses songs from Axl. I think Axl does have 30 great songs in his safe. I even think he has more than that but no one knows because Axl is the one only person that knows about them.

He could have songs that could top Estranged.  drool  drool

I'm sure it's only a sarcastic joke from Dave. It means he hasn't heard any songs, only the hype that they are great and will change the world like Wyld Stallyns did in that Bill & Ted movie. Maybe Dave reads GNR message boards?

Dave's joking that "all musicians" have those amazing songs hiding somewhere but for some reason no one has ever heard them in public. The same way like "we all" have a bestseller novel written in our drawer, or at least we could write one "if we only had time", but nobody has seen this great novel. People are saying so but there is no proof.

Before that he talked about wasted time and how if you love the music, why do you not release anything new.
