great how they kept touching on the surface of the troubles with axl - illusions done in 30 days, but vox and overdubs took forever.

said theyd like to release the raw tracks without excessive production, cuz they sounded heavier.

i agree for some tracks but not others! i suppose we'd have to hear them first though to make up your mind... it was suggested they could release a raw version like the beatles 'let it be' and 'let it be NAKED' - thatd be really cool!

it is always the interviewer who brings up the GN'R. They're not going to lie making Axl look good in the end. But they will forever compliment him on his greatness as a frontman. In this interview, Slash said Axl is one of the best frontman ever.

Same as before, back in the UK in June.

I think the show will be archived on the Virgin Radio site tomorrow.

That was a fun interview (yes, I like the guitar sound in the background).

I was happy to hear Slash & Duff mention Steve.  They said that it was with him that they wrote the songs in Guns.  Matt has come into his own in VR.

I didnt know that Slash and Dave Kusher knew each other in high school - learn something new everyday.

Yeh i didn't know that either.  Wow what a Highschool that was, Lenny Kravitz went to the same Hishschool as Slash too- interesting!

Yeh it was a good interview - i thought the interviewer wasn't totally clued up, but decent enough all the same.  I was realising i had not heard Duff's speaking voice for ages was cool to hear him.

I hope they do the rounds on Tv when the Album/singles out.  They should do Jools holland and Jonathon Ross at least i think.

A recap of the interview...

The host comments that Contraband is right in front of him but he cant play it, and Duff and Slash say theyre old-school in that they want the album heard on the day it comes out.

On downloading and I-Pods, Slash says he understands the enthusiasm and thinks theyre cool, but theyre still trying to keep a lid on the record.

Duff and Slash joke about going to Stoke-On-Trent.

The host complains that theyre not doing any shows, but Slash and Duff say they are just doing a press tour right now.  "The live show is something not to be missed" says Duff, who hopes to be there performing as early as June.  The host demands they play some festivals, to which Slash and Duff point at their manager.

They say that Geffen is Geffen in name only now that everybody was fired from there.  Slash says, "Its Geffen and Guns N' Roses - neither one is exactly accurate."  They dont feel the GH will sabotage their record, and if anything it will hip a lot of people to Velvet Revolver.  Duff confirms that he, Slash and Axl were not consulted about the list, and thats not the list they wouldve chosen, but its still them playing and theyre proud of the legacy they left with that band.  Slash: "At the end of the day, were so busy doing what were doing and so into that, its just...you gotta let it go."  Slash guesses that interest in the GH is a sign of the times, and maybe everybody is really eager to go back there.  Duff says its a perfect setup for the VR album.

Slash says that while theres recognizable sounds due to everybody involved, its a whole new thing.  Duff says everyones playing has evolved and its the chemistry that brought them back together.  He then tells the origin of the band story (Randy Castillos benefit, etc.).  Slash says their reunion was so powerful that they knew they should go on with it.  They say that they never were as close with Matt as they are now since he came into Guns after the UYI music was already written, and now hes finally there for the writing.  Slash has known Kushner since junior high, and Duff believes that only two guys in the world can add to Slashs playing: Izzy and Dave.  Slash finds that to be a huge compliment.  Slash thinks that everybodys playing adds a new level to the music, with Scott being the ultimate icing on the cake.

Slash tells the host to tell Brian May he said "Hey".

It seems Slash and Duff made a playlist, and the first song played is "Sex Type Thing" by STP.  Slash reminds that they played it at El Rey and it was killer.

The host recounts the last years of GNR as being odd, says the new album is still unreleased, and says that Slash and Duff cite their leaving to Axl Rose being a "power-crazy asshole".  Slash stops him and makes it clear thats not a quote from either of them.  "We really left softly," says Duff.  Slash says their leavnig was a gradual thing and his time was done, he had to go.  "No hard feelings, as much as possible, and Im gone."  Duff says they know why they left, and theyve never come out and called Axl a "power-crazy asshole" and to air any dirty laundry is below them.

The hosts asks a really good question: Were Slash or Duff ever involved in writing Chinese Democracy, even in its earliest stages?  Slash says there was some stuff written while they were still there, he just doesnt know what Axls keeping or in what form its going to come out.  Slash says "So theyre could be some riff that I dont even remember."

The host says theyre lucky to be alive.  Slash says they felt invincible, but always believed they wouldnt live that long and often only gave themselves a few more days.  Then they reached a certain point when they realized they werent going anywhere and it was best to preserve themselves the best they can.

Theyre both dads, and Slash has a second child coming.

Duff says he remembers the beginning of the Illusions tour, but theres stamps in his passports that he doesnt remember.  Duff says Matt Sorum remembers everything so he refers to him a lot.  Slash says it was all great, even though there was ups and downs, it was a great life.  They then play Rolling Stones, "Live With Me".

Duff says "Slither" will be out late-May, and the album comes out June 7th.

The host says hes been listening to the album and calls Scotts voice brilliant.  Slash says they werent going to stop until they found the right guy.  He said its not easy finding a frontman whos a great lyricist and a great performer and a great singer...The host mentions Axl as a powerful lead singer, and Slash calls him "One of the best".  Scott was their first choice, and wanted in on VR but Duff didnt want any part in breaking up STP.  After finding out STP was over, they called Scott for the soundtrack songs and everything has clicked.  Slash says the whole things was just "handed down from above".  Duff says at  El Rey show it was like as monster unleashed.  After El Rey, Scott said "This is the band I always wanted to be in."  Slash promises that will be their energy level through the whole thing.

The host promises to play "Slither" as soon as hes allowed.

Slash says hopefully Guns N' Roses will have a meeting of the minds a couple years down the road and can put out a quintessential GNR Greatest Hits album, itll be something way more provocative then whats out now.  Duff says "Play Nightrain" and they do...

The host brings up their tour with Aerosmith and Duff describes how 70 fans eventually turned into 17,000 and how surreal it was.  Slash says he knew theyd arrived when everybody in the crowd knew their songs and says theres nothing more gratifying than performing songs that people love.

The host recounts that Nirvana spurned Guns N' Roses twice in regards to touring, and Kurt and Axl had a bad relationship and asks if that extended to them.  Duff says no, that being from Seattle he recognized the talent up there.  Says that being at Geffen, he had a casette of Nevermind a few months before its released and wore it out.  Slash says he was pissed off about the incident with Kurt, Courtney and Axl (Not sure what he means by this, but he follows with "...so obnoxious" under his breath).

Slash says their pick is sort-of obvious and they play "Heart-Shaped Box".

Slash says VR is very much a new band and the energy is inspired by everything new...its not a throwback.  Duff: "We will continue to move forward from record to record."  Slash thinks its cool that they have their own musical identities that create something new.  Duff says its a straight-up, in-your-face rock and roll record and it was basically recorded live to tape over 3 weeks.  Slash says that Use Your Illusions was done in 30 days, and the vocals took over 6 months.  Slash also says if he had his way, he would put out the rough tracks from UYI, without all the overdubs.  After the host compares it to the Beatles Let It Be...Naked, Slash says thered be an even bigger difference.  He says that the sound of the original record was lost in the production phase, and as much as he loves the records, the originals are even better.  And overproduction is something they tried to avoid with VR.  They dont like the way a lot of the new music sounds.  Duff says "Its all Pro-Tooled, its all digital...we wanted to go analogue and just....mic us up."  "We just wanted something to be better than our demos" adds Slash.

They say theyre not a "supergroup".  Slash says its five desperate guys coming together to make music, and they go on to play "Paradise City".

Duff wants to do this for a long, long time and Scott says hell do it "Til he cant shake his ass no more."  Slash says theyve learned how to keep a band together.  He says theyre making all their own decisions despite any naysayers.  "Its a very ego-nomical band," says Slash.  The others wonder what hes talking about.  The host says that many believe Axl was consumed by ego and toward the end, believed he was Guns N' Roses.  Slash: "Well, I guess so..."  Duff: "I wouldnt disagree with that."

The host comments on how good the guys look despite their hard-living.  Slash says when they play, itll answer everybodys questions.  They end the segment with "Feel-Good Hit Of The Summer" by Queens Of The Stone Age.
