I dopn't care that this isn't a sentence, but I love these lyrics:

The question they keep asking me
how can one so young be so bitter and angry
well, the answer is plain to see
maybe if they wern't so blind they'd see what i see
i see the homeless livin' out on the street
on every corner they're asking for money
i try to help them whenever i can
but sometimes i can't afford to help myself
i see diseases and modern plagues of our times
the greed of our leaders has made them blind
to our problems
they spend millions overseas,
people right here are fightin' wars everyday

I see the whites that hate the blacks
blacks against the jews, race against religion
and the're all too blind to see

When we fight each other it puts all of them at ease
it keeps us so busy, so they can do what they please
election time comes and they're out for votes
that's when you see and hear from them the most
this is what they're calling a democracy
that's just another word for hypocrisy
we keep fallin' for the bait
when we realize, it's always too late

I see the whites that hate the blacks
blacks that hate the jews, brother against brother
and they're all to blind to see

As the rich get richer, the poor goin' hungry
i've seen the toll it takes on the workingman's family
education system that's obsolete
can't hold a kid's interest or keep 'em off the street
see a father's fear, hear a mother's cry
what kind of a nation lets their children die
government's corrupt and full of red tape
then you're gonna ask me why i hate

Why don't you open up your eyes so you can see
open up your ears so you can hear
take a look around and you will find
take a look around and you will find out why

"The Rose" - Bette Midler

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to blead

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dyingthat never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose

(I know it's more than one sentence but I think it sums everything up pretty much. Beautiful song.)

"Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been, lives in a dream. Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. Who is it for?"

"Father McKenzie, writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear"

"Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name, nobody came.
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave, no one was saved"

All from Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles.

"Christ you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going they're going to crucify me"

The Ballad Of John And Yoko - The Beatles.

"Oh, father of the four winds fill my sails, cross the sea of years. With no provision but an open face along the straits of fear"

Kashmir - Led Zeppelin.

"And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn, for those who stand long and the forests will echo with laughter"

Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin.

"While we live according to race, colour or creed. While we rule by blind madness and pure greed. Our lives dictated by tradition, superstition, false religion"

"If there's a God or any kind of justice under the sky. If there's a point, if there's a reason to live or die. If there's an answer to the questions we fill bound to ask. Show yourself - destroy your fears - release your mask"

Both from Innuendo - Queen.

"I hang my head and I advertise, a soul for sale or rent"

Save Me - Queen.

"She's got a cousin, in fact she's got a dozen, she's got one in the oven, but it's nothing to do with me"

She's Electric - Oasis.

"When I'm watchin' my TV and that man comes on to tell me how white my shirts can be, but he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarrettes as me"

Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones.

Someone mentioned The Show Must Go On by Queen. Well it was written in 1990/91 when the band and Freddie Mercury knew he was dying. The song is brilliant (get it if you haven't heard it) and these are the lyrics again bearing in mind he was dying when it was written:

Empty spaces - what are we living for
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for...
Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in this pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore?

The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on.

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn breaking, but inside in the dark I'm aching to be free

The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on.

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies,
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die,
I can fly - my friends

The show must go on
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On with the show.

I'll top the bill, I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on...with the show.

The show must go on

Well technically by this time Queen were writting as a team, not as single writers. So they all wrote all the songs from that period, it's just some wrote more than others on certain songs.

Who wouldn't be the one you love and live for
Who wouldn't stand inside your love and die for

From Stand inside your love
by Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins
"Who wouldn't be the one you love?"Has to be the most beautiful question one can possibly ask.

the me the you know
he had some second thoughts
he's covered with scabs
he is broken and sore
the me that you know
he doesn't come around much
that part of me isn't here anymore
From The Becoming, by Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails
Songs dealing with the my-emotions-die-and-i-turn-into-a-machine-and-feel-angsty-about-it always do the trick for me.The Becoming is, like, the mount everest of my-emotions-die-and-i-turn-into-a-machine-and-feel-angsty-about-it -songs.Smiley

You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
Hurt by TR,NiN

Here are we, one magical moment, such is the stuff
From where dreams are woven
Bending sound, dredging the ocean, lost in my circle
Here am i, flashing no colour
Tall in this room overlooking the ocean
Station to Station by David Bowie

Time - he?s waiting in the wings
He speaks of senseless things
His script is you and me, boy
Time - he flexes like a whore
Falls wanking to the floor
His trick is you and me, boy
Time by David Bowie

Breakfast where the news is read
Television children fed
Unborn living, living, dead
Bullet strikes the helmet's head
Unknown soldier by Jim Morrison, Doors

I can never get out of here
I don't want to just float in fear
A dead astronaut in space
Disassociative by Marilyn Manson

"Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been, lives in a dream. Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. Who is it for?"
"Father McKenzie, writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear"
"Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name, nobody came.
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave, no one was saved"
Jesus Christ. What an amazing set of lyrics. I once had the Godhead's cover of the song, heard it few times but never really"listened" it. Need to "buy" it again.

'Life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone'

-- John Mellencamp, 'Jack and Diane'

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness

She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless

All your life you?ve never seen a woman
Taken by the wind

"You gave me nothing, now its all I?ve got.
We?re one, but we?re not the same, well we hurt each other then we do it again"

This line is brilliant to me, especially the first one. Bah, the whole song is fuckin brilliant  ok  Taken from U2 - One

"Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul"

Taken from Bob Dylan - Masters of War

You taught me how to understand the things people do,
You showed me how to love my God, You taught me that not everyone knows the truth,
And I thank you, I'll always thank you,
More than you could know, Than I could ever show,
And I love you, I'll always love you, There's nothing I won't do to say these words to you,
That you will live forever, always

"Send rains down here I sit,
Holding rare flowers in a tomb"

Alice in Chains, Down in a hole.

"Roses in a vase of white, bloodied by the thorns beside,
the leaves that fall because my hand is, pulling them as hard as it can"

-Alice in Chains, Brother

"Pictures in a box at home, yellowing and green with mold
so I can barely see your face, wonder how that color tastes"

-Alice in Chains, Brother

I can't change
What I am right now, but
I'll be fine in the next life

I Mother Earth - Raspberry

Wake me up when
The day is late
so I can watch the sunset
and go back to bed
And dream so real
A fantastic stage
Psychodramatic means to
Uncertain ends

I Mother Earth - So Gently We Go

The sights, they're embryonic, say what you want, I'm not yet sonic
I Mother Earth - Not Quite Sonic

Take me to your world
I want to know if I belong
There instead of here

And pretty much every other I Mother Earth lyric.
