If I remember correctly, the Velvet part was Scott's idea.

Yes, evil does have it's honest side and it's called Slash

You do remember correctly.  Slash said the band was gonna be called Revolver but Scott came up with Velvet.  Slash said it was typical Scott and it was perfect.

I think the name sounds like one that an old pop metal band would have had...

I suggested that several months ago and got slated for looking too hard into things. It seems obvious to me that there is a semantic relation between "Guns n'Roses" and "Velvet Revolver". Except that a velvet isn't a flower, is it ? Rather a soft fabric...

The name has grown on me..but i always feel slightly embarrassed mentioining it, it ain't a good name.........

Velvet revolver is very similiar name to Guns N' Roses - the contrast of hard and soft 'velvet' and 'revolver', i think its a good idea but they could have picked a slightly better name....

Too much of a GNR association....they were the 'guns' Axl was the 'rose', revolver tied in with that too much, perhaps it still does....

I like the name velvet revolver, but the similarities to GN'R makes me put off by the name a little

the guys make it clear that they are very proud of what they accomplished in GN'R. Just because they're going with a similar name doesn't mean they don't want to move, which they clearly want to do with VR.

I love the name.

I would relate Velvet to a fabric or a color but a flower never comes to mind.

For a band that wants to distance themselves from GNR, Velvet Revolver sure seems like a bad choice.

Either way, when their cd comes out it should make us care less what they call themselves.

flowers/roses have a velvety feel to em
and a revolver is a gun.
good association i guess.
but yeah the velvet was scott's idea, which is fine with me.
VR is going to be uncanny

I hate the name. I'm used to hear it now, but when it came out I thought it was awful. Why the revolver there? too many similarities with Guns. I actually liked "the Project" much more. It had grown on me.
