Usher kicks ass, i dont care what anyone thinks.

Ms. Alicia Keyes is coming up, she is simply amazing! she didnt conform her style to fit programming, she stuck to her guns and has made it in spite of MTV and her label.

wait till u see her perform! she is a true artist!

lil jon and the eastsidaz with fat joe and the terror squad, that kicked ass, i dig some hip hop, i wouldnt buy most of it or sit around the house listening to it but i enjoy it from time to time.

the rock performances were worse than words can describe.

shaquille o neal was in tremendous shape 2 months before the nba season! holy shit!!!!!!!

kanye west was pretty cool, first time ive really listened he was alright.

weird that they really dont have a set host this year. i thought dave chapelle was the host? but its a totally different format.

i miss real music!!!!!!

Prince lost but i expected that!

any thoughts from anyone else?

It's better to burn out than to fade away...

Yeeeeah...I was watching the VMAs, but I had to turn it off, it was so lame.  Good thing Jay-Z won Best Rap Video - "99 Problems" is an amazing song and has a cool video - but I can't believe Jet won Best Rock Video.  The Darkness, hello!  I stopped watching after the performance by Fat Joe, Little Jon, et al.  I hate Fat Joe, and that was just another anonymous piece of bling-bling rap shit.

The only good part was Dave Chappelle.  I was previously a little mixed on him, but he had a funny little bit, especially where he tells the screaming crowd, "Is there anything you guys DON'T like?"

Is it just me, or were some of the singers, like the guy from Hoobastank, a little off-key?

Yeah, she's pretty good - certainly a helluva lot better than most of the trash out there.

All three of the rock groups smushed together into one little skit sucked. They made it sound like they were the 3 best bands in rock and they aren't.

Yes that Hoobastank singer seemed off, and the Jet singer sounded like he was talking not singing his lyrics. Yellowcard sounded bad all around. So maybe the VMA just make rock singers sound bad. ie Axl.

The format was horrible. You could tell who was and wasnt gonna win each award. They had cameras up close on the artist whos gonna win before they announce it. The first video for best pop video, the only group in the auidience I could see was No noubt and they won. Its sunk to a new level. Atleast with the Radio City music was a nice environment and not a bunch of kids screaming the whole time. I even enjoyed the year the Wayan brothers co hosted together better then this.  There was no great rock performance. I didnt find anyone funny in their little jokes they say before they hand out of the award (except for Chapelle, but hes fucking hilarious doing anything). The jimmy falon skit was soo unfunny, made me question why he is an entertainer.

Why are people like Shaq, Tony Hawk, Bam Morrison at these shows, they have very little to do with music. Shaq should get an award in thanks for not putting out a rap record for the year. Year after year it seems to be going from an entertaining show with great music guests, into a TRL show, with little focus on the music, lots of rap and barely anythign else, and screaming kids who will SCREAM FOR ANYTHING.

The VMA?S totally sucked, I?ve wacthed the show for 9 years and this was the saddest thing ever! MTV is the worst thing for music, they basically only support R&B, Pop, Rap..but what about rock? they only "support" commercial bands! and yet they have them perform basically at the same time and with only like 2 minutes each...FUCK MTV!.

Yeah but Shaq isnt crap anymore. My Pistons showed the Lakers you dont need huge egos. I'm glad shaq is trying to build up another team but him and Will Smith together got just about as much as the 3 rock groups had together. For a Music Awards show, if you dont have enough time to atleast give 3 ok at best rock bands, cut out the funnyless jokes.

Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, and Lenny Kravitz.... what a performace.  I was trying to think of what combination MTV would come up with this year, but this didn't even cross my mind.  Their performance was INCREDIBLE.  I really like that Alicia Keys song.  Her first album was awesome, and now I'm inclined to check out her second.  I was expecting a terrible collaboration (like Sting and Sean Paul @ the Grammy's) but this was a great idea!

Outkast's performance was just as good.  They really made something special with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.  Big Boi was dead on in his Ghettomusick verse.... which is saying a lot!!  That takes a lot of skill to perform like that.  As for Dre's performance.... I swear everytime he performs Hey Ya he always manages to come up with some new fucked up outfit or idea... this time he delivers the voting booth.  My favourite is still the popcorn stand from the NBA All Star game.  I'm happy Outkast got their recognition this year.  We've all heard Hey Ya one too many times, but it's still one of those songs that 10 years down the road people will look back at and give it a bunch more spins.

The rest of the awards sucked shit... it was painful to watch.  No one played a full song... I'm tired of 30 seconds of each artists hits and 5 different guest artists coming out to perform.  It takes away any thrill that once existed with those types of performances (not unlike the chair being used in wrestling when the ref ain't lookin).  Everyone stuttered over their lines... the sound in the Usher performance was fucking terrible and he didn't have any flow.  The camera angles were shite too.  Kanye was on fire, but again he cuts up his songs and brings out Syleena Johnson and a WAY off key Chaka Khan.  Thank God for Outkast and Alicia Keys.   ok

The VMA's are shit. Its contains everything that is wrong about the music industry in 3 hours.

I hate the fact that music nowadays has more to do with image than actually fucking songs.

And whats with all these rappers/hip hop guys saying how hard it is on the streets? Fuck off - how do you know whats happening on the streets? You spend most of your time in a hot tub with your ho's in your big fuck off mansion.

Makes me sick
