I just got through watching m?tley cr?e's video for "smokin' in the boys room", and I must say it is one of the worst I've ever seen. it's a given that '80s hair videos were just plain hilarious, but seriously. any that have made you cringe or laugh?

I mean, even skid row made good videos.

Another 80's video....Bon Jovi's Runaway.  The part where he is walking down the street in the TIGHTEST JEANS EVER and doing that funky little wiggle/dance step.  Makes me laugh every time I see it.

Immortal - Call of the Wintermoon
Grim n3kr0sp1r1tual black metal warriors running around in the forest, one of them dressed as a wizard (the pointy hat, cape, and everything!) Don't think I've ever laughed as much to a music video. You kind of have to see it yourself to fully grasp it.. I really think those guys were on shrooms. They had to be  nervous

Manowar - Gloves of Metal
With this one it's actually kind of hard to decide whether it's really bad or really good. The video includes horseback riding, swordplay, and of course Manowar taking the scantily dressed hot women.

David Hasselhoff - Looking for Freedom
'Nuff said.

...any Milli Vanilli vid...
'Nuff said.

White Stripes - We're Going To Be Friends

Nice song, but this has to be the most boring video EVER.  It's just Jack and Meg sitting on a couch while he strums the song.  One camera angle the whole time, nothing changes.  If you're going to make a music video, you might as well make it interesting.

other bad videos I can think of are:

mick jagger & david bowie - Dancing in the street
vixen - Edge of a broken heart
jefferson starship - We built this city

..but I'm trying to think of some from the '90s, because I'm sure there's some.

That latest Linkin Park vid (can't think of the name).  It's animated in a Japenese anime style.  I hate how they try to be so cutting edge and hip since anime is huge right now within their demographic.  i don't know, it just bothers me how its so "artistic" when its really not. lame.

Lenny Kravitz-Where are we running?
What a joke!! Holy crap, he wakes up with two girls in his bed and swills vodka.  He portrays himself as this huge rockstar who lives a fast life filled with girls, drugs, booze and parties when we all know what a douchebag he is.  The song is just a crappy pop song, but in the video he rocking out so hard.  Running around the stage, jamming out on his guitar, playing piano behind his back and going nuts.  It doesn't fit the song at all...its not even a hard song. fuck off lenny.

Yeah, Linkin Park appeal to the same kids that like anime.  I don't know if it's supposed to be artistic, maybe it was just cheaper than them shooting another video about a lonely girl while they play in the background.

Oh, I don't know, I really liked that song the first time I heard it.  It's catchy, and as much as I enjoy heavy rock, I'll always love pure pop when it's done well.  And that's what Lenny did - nice, catchy rock 'n' roll song.  Anyway, even if I didn't like it, it's the official frosh theme song for my university this year, so I'm obligated to like it anyway!  hihi

That one Alanis Morrisette video, um, I think Hands Over Feet. Where the whole video is a close-up of her face, so close you can count the molecules on her face.

I think she's pretty enough, but no one needs to see anyone that close.

Whatever that poison video with the syncronized  leg kicks...that was pretty bad. "Oh Sherrie" by steve perry is really really bad. Others like that pat benetar video "love is a bttlefield" are just bad enough to be funny.

actually, it does. but if you're not a fan of the band and don't understand the symbolism, then I'm definitely not going to force it on you. I'm sure a lot of people think the same of the Trilogy videos, but in the end, all the pieces do go together.

In that case...

from Heavier Than Heaven:

What "Heart-Shaped Box" meant to Kurt is best surmised by the treatment he wrote for the song's video. Kurt envisioned it starring William S. Burroughs, and he wrote Burroughs begging him to appear in the video. "I realize that stories in the press regarding my drug use may make you think that this request comes from a desire to parallel our lives," he wrote. "Let me assure you, this is not the case." But exactly what Kurt hoped to achieve by casting the writer was never clear. In his attempt to convince Burroughs to participate, he had offered to obscure the writer's face, so that no one other than Kurt would know of his cameo. Burroughs declined the invitation.

Both the In Utero album and "Heart-Shaped Box" video were obsessed with images of birth, death, sexuality, disease, and addiction. There were several versions of the video made, and a battle over who originated the ideas eventually caused Kurt to split with video director Kevin Kerslake, who promptly sued Kurt and Nirvana; Anton Corbijn completed the final cut, which included shots of Kurt's growing collection of dolls. The released video centered around a junkie-looking elderly Jesus dressed as the Pope, wearing a Santa hat while being crucified in a field of poppies. A fetus hangs from a tree, and reappears crammed inside an IV bottle being fed into Jesus, who has moved to a hospital room. Krist, Dave, and Kurt are shown in a hospital room waiting for Jesus to recover. A giant heart with a crossword puzzle inside it appears, as does the Aryan girl, whose white KKK hat turns to black. And throughout these images, Kurt's faces continues to charge the camera. It is an absolutely striking video, and all the more remarkable because Kurt privately told his friends that many of these images were from his dreams.

Hey! Ashes to Ashes is pretty cool! Apocalyptic beaches, catepillars,Bowie dressed as a carnival freak, an  old, small granny - good stuff!

Dancing in the street has to be gayest thing Jagger&Bowie have ever done together..hmm..wait. Wink
That god awful video summarizes pretty well everything that was horribly, horribly WRONG about  80's

Most new(er) db videos are excellent, though. I absolutely LOVE heart's filthy lesson. Flood of incredibly strange and somewhat disturbing scenes/mental images and what not.Very unique.eh..colors.

The overdone minimalism of Thursday's Child video is very freshing thing in this era of uncreative larger than life helicopters, tits and asses- shit.

On topic,
Pretty much all hair metal videos from 80's are teh shit. It was a horrible, horrible experience to watch Van Halen's Jump AND Bon Jovi's livin on a prayer in a row on MTV. Ughh the hair. Aghh the moves. ?ghh the smiles. WHY DO THEY SMILE ALL THE TIME! >Stop it!

hihi It's so disconcerting watching Lenny totally deny that he is like, pushing 40 right now and clearly NOT the sex god rock n roll hero that he, perhaps, once was.

FYI- if your ever confused about a Nirvana video, look for images of women; kurt was very interested in women's identity, sexuality, reproductive capabilities, etc.

Prince  -When Doves Cry
Nice song, shame about the video. Its the shots of Prince crawling out of the bath (never mind the running water the symbolism) arthritic dancing by various members of the Revolution, The so 80's visual effects that mess it up. And the crappy tear running down the face at the end. I suppose there wasn't much time and money left over from the @Purple Rain' film.
