Sugar Ray is underrated

I've started to listen to Sugar Ray more and more the past few months, and I have to say that they have a lot of great songs.  "Every Morning", "Answer The Phone", "Someday", etc.  I don't know why they aren't more popular.  They used to be, but their last couple of albums haven't been so successful and now Mark McGrath hosts VH-1 specials.  That's sad, to me.  They're one of the best bands of the last decade to craft really catchy, melodic pop-rock songs, something that often isn't seen as a virtue in this "heavier-than-thou" age.

They make good summer albums, IMO.  Modern Beach Boys type of stuff maybe... Sounds good with the windows down and a nice breeze hitting your face near the water.

Yeah, that's the comparision I keep thinking when I listen to them.  One of the only modern-day party rock bands.

Never heard an entire album, but Ive liked most of their singles.  They make enjoyable pop songs.

Van Halen is the best party rock there is. Some Santana is good, too. And yes, of course the Beach Boys. Sugar Ray is a waste of plastic that could have been used to make VH cds.

anyway, i used to like Sugar Ray when i was younger, funny as it may sound, they actually helped open a few doors musically for me.  Their first couple albums were actually pretty heavy...

Lemonade & Brownies is actually mostly like punk/thrash kind of music.  really fast and hard and...pretty terrible

Their CD called  Floored  featured that real popular song called "Fly". i bought it cause i liked that song  :nervous:and it was cheap....but the rest of the album sounded nothing like it! The rest of it is just really nasty hard rock.  i still put it on sometimes with my friend for a laugh cause its fun to scream out the lyrics cause they suck, and the cd is pretty laughable...IMO

The rest of their cd's however are straight forward pop, and i guess they're good if thats what you're looking for!

no they are about right


they arent great arent bad they are an average in the middle band with some good songs which is how they are perceived and remembered

even Mark McGrath acknowledged that, which is why their second record was called 14:59.

they have some good songs but arent underrated at all, their status is bout where it should be.

I just heard "Fly" for the first time today and didn't think it was all that great.  They've got a dozen better songs than that.

At first I thought this thread was titled "Sugar Ray is Overrated", I guess I just read what I wanted to see....They're awful and Mark McGrath or whatever is right at home on ET or whatever it is he's doing....He did kick everyone's ass on Rock N' Roll Jeopardy! though, then again, C.C. Deville did awesome too and he looked stoned out of his fucking mind.
