Does anybody know how to play a 12-string? ( I'm not ambitious, just curious Grin) Are there different scale patterns? And how about the chords?

i thought its exactly the same as a six string.

tuned exactly the same except the strings are grouped in two's, really close together so you fret them both at the same time.

the pairs of strings are tuned in octaves, i think.

so low e would be paired with the e of the next octave.

a would be paired with the a of the next octave and so on.

so you would play it like a 6 string except when you pick a string you actually pick a pair.

they're a bitch to tune, and to get strings for them too.

but they have a mighty jangle, good for chording.

one is used in stairway to heaven for the intro and main rhythm guitar live.

someone else will be ably to fill you in better.

The intro to stairway is a 6-string.  But yeah, they're tuned the same as 6 strings...the bottom four extra strings are the octaves, and the top two are the same pitch as the normal string./

Steven's drumming made the band; he made a big musical difference.  His sense of swing was the push and pull that gave those songs their feel, afterwards, nothing worked. ~ Izzy Stradlin

On the song remains the same he uses the 12 string for the intro, i know it was a 6 string on the record.

Hmm maybe i'm wrong, i'll have to watch it again. Yep im getting doubts that he used the 12 string in the middle rhythm section. But im sure he used the 12 string in the intro on that dvd.......no he didnt........yes he did.....not he didnt. confused
