My top-ten favourite riffs would probably be (in no particular order):

Guns N' Roses, "Sweet Child O' Mine"
Blink-182, "Adam's Song"
Van Halen, "Unchained"
Bush, "Glycerine"
Poison, "Fallen Angel"
Guns N' Roses, "One In A Million"
Skid Row, "Youth Gone Wild"
Ozzy Osbourne, "Crazy Train"
Megadeth, "Angry Again"
AC/DC, "You Shook Me All Night Long"

I guess generally, they just don't make riffs like they used to...

Eruption- Van Halen

That's a solo, not a riff it doesn't repeat. Unless there is another definition of riff i am unaware of?

Black Sabbath- Zero the Hero

Hey, is it true that Guns N' Roses borrowed heavily from the riff to "Zero The Hero" when writing "Paradise City"?  The story I read was that Duff and Izzy were sitting around listening to that song, remarking on what a cool riff it was.  Then they started writing "Paradise City".  Hmmm...

I have no idea. Zero the Hero is a slow, sludgy song and Paradise City is fast. Sped up, maybe ZTH does sound a little like PC.

Who cares, both songs rock. Smiley

Nope

Th riff to Paradise City was written by Slash in days long before GNR appeared.

Have you checked AC/DC's back catalogue to make sure it wasn't in there first??!  hihi

Interesting list, doubt anyone will be able to come up with a more 'alternative' one.  As for me, I haven't got time to weigh up a top 10, it's too fuckin hard.
