Me and my guitar teacher both agree that the only difference between this and the Gibson is the quality of the pickups

Best Record Ever Made, Plain and Simple!

« Reply #41 on: October 10, 2005, 06:41:26 PM »

ive had my epiphone les paul for about just over 2 yrs now and i fucking love it.  the only thing that makes them inferior to the gibson one, is that the gibson one is made in the US out of one piece of wood and isnt put together with several different pieces like the epiphones are.  i love mine tho, i play throught a tech 21 1x12 combo and have a blues breaker 2 effect box and have pretty damn good aerosmith/gnr tone.  id sugguest getting and epiphone if you cant afford the gibson, especially if you havent played for that long.  but dude the epiphone is worth every penny if not more they are awesome.  hope that helps some

An Epiphone Les Paul Standard, costs 458.00 EUR at Thomann, and a Gibson Les Paul Standard 2550.00 EUR. So I'd say there's a difference. This is in Europe. So I don't know about the prices in the US. I bet you don't have to pay that much. One can find 'em cheaper here too, but that's about the average I think. Haven't really been looking all that closely, 'cause it's way out of my budjet anyways.

New, Gibson Les Paul Standards (!?) for 600 pounds? Not Specials or something like that, but brand new LP Standards? Wow... Do they ship them to other countries?

I'm pretty sure he is referring to the Les Paul Specials, they're smaller than the regular Les Pauls and run about $700.00 here in the US.  Good guitars though.

I've seen Studio's for that price in loads of places, it's not that strange.

On topic, unless it's Japanese (or the Korean Elites), Epiphone sucks.

Elites are made in Japan, but they're inferior to non-export japanese models. If you can find a japanese epiphone, or better yet, Orville by Gibson (the "by Gibson" means alot) you can pretty easily match a Gibby. Fuck, better yet get an old Burny or Greco lawsuit, true quality, only set you back about the same as an Epi in Europe. Btw I love living in America. Sure our president is crazy, our economy is going to shit, and the whole world hates us, but apparently our guitars are cheaper, and thats all I need.

I had a Epi LP standard before and I must say it is a really good guitar for a cheap price.
But now i have a new Gibson LP Studio and its like in a different league, much better than the Epi but it also cost about twice as much.
So I would say if you are a beginner you could be happy with Epiphone but you really cant compare it with Gibsons smoking

I have a Samick Avion AV3, which is their version of a Les Paul (little to no difference) and I love it.  It's the guitar that goes everywhere with me.  I also have a cheap acoustic and a Fender strat, and when I moved to Texas, the Avion is the only one I brought with me.  I highly suggest it.  Additionally, it only costs $350 or so.

I've had one and my friend has one. bad thing about these "cheaper" copies are that their quality varies much more than with the top brands, overall they're good guitars to begin with. though I had Alcino pro II on mine, the original pickups sounded kinda "choky".
