...or: what ?Live Era? should have been. I know it?s been done quite a few times, so I?m putting this in the ?Dead Horse? section.

I?d like to hear your opinion on this compilation, maybe you?d like to post your perfect ?Best Of? in here too? I mean not just the songs you want on it, but also the order of the songs, you know?

Anyway, here?s mine. I did not include any cover versions, because this should be a real Guns N? Roses ?Best Of? with original GN?R-material only.

CD 1:

1.???Welcome To The Jungle
2.???It?s So Easy
3.???Mr. Brownstone
4.???Nightrain
5.???You?re Crazy (Original)
6.???Think About You
7.???Sweet Child O? Mine
8.???Patience
9.???Rocket Queen
10.???My Michelle
11.???Don?t Cry (Original Lyrics Demo)
12.???Paradise City

Hidden Track: One In A Million

CD 2:

1.???You Could Be Mine
2.???Locomotive
3.???14 Years
4.???November Rain
5.???Civil War
6.???Breakdown
7.???So Fine
8.???Estranged
9.???Get In The Ring
10.???Don?t Damn Me
11.???Dead Horse
12.???Coma

They should've put the only live performance of "Bad Apples" on it.

Also, I would've liked to have heard live versions of "Locomotive" and "Breakdown" on it too.

As far as the AFD and GNRL songs, I would've liked to have had more performances with Steven on drums.  Steven was only on three songs on Live Era.  His drumming on the AFD and GNRL songs blows away Sorum, especially the beginning of "Mr. Brownstone".

Hey Conny You can't put them two songs on because Guns N' Roses never played them live. Too bad they never did play Don't Damn Me live.  Sad

Why buy a double GNR "best of" when they only have three "real" albums? Beats me...

It's hilarious that anyone would think of putting out a 2 disc GNR's greatest hits collection, when they only have three full albums worth of original material.  The truth is, I think they have barely enough "hits" to warrant ONE full greatest hits CD (and by "hits", I don't mean great songs.  I mean well known songs in terms of the general public and the casual GNR fan).

With that in mind, from strictly a business perspective, here is what I would put on a GNR greatest hits CD....

1 - Welcome To The Jungle
2 - Patience
3 - It's So Easy
4 - You Could Be Mine
5 - Don't Cry (original)
6 - Yesterdays
7 - Sweet Child O' Mine
8 - November Rain
9 - Knockin On Heaven's Door
10 - Estranged
11 - Paradise City
12 - Ain't Goin Down (previously unreleased demo)
13 - Hearbreak Hotel (live)

The last 2 tracks are for the "die-hard" fans who have all the albums and normally wouldn't by a greatest hits record filled with songs they already have.

I also hate to put a cover on there (KOHD), but I had trouble filling space, and I figured since Aerosmith did it on their first greatest hits album, what the hell.

The original albums are best-ofs in themselves.  I mean, look at conny's two-CD track listing - 10 out of Appetite's 12 songs are on there.

Well, ok...then if that's the case, I'll just do a one CD greatest hits, because I don't think a casual record-buyer will want to spring for a double CD best-of from a band that only has four albums of original material (although it's a shame that you put those restrictions on cover versions, because "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" was one of GNR's biggest hits and there's a lot of great cuts on the Spaghetti Incident album.  Ah, what the heck, I'll include KOHD - it's one of the quintessential Guns N' Roses songs).

That said, here's my track listing for the best of Guns N' Roses...

1. Move To The City
2. Welcome To The Jungle
3. It's So Easy
4. Nightrain
5. Paradise City
6. Sweet Child O' Mine
7. Patience
8. Used To Love Her
9. Civil War
10. November Rain
11. You Could Be Mine
12. Estranged
13. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
14. Coma

That's all that'll fit on an 80-minute CD, but I think it's a reasonable sampler.  It becomes a little ballad-heavy on the second half, but there were so many great ballads that I didn't want to leave out at the expense of some great rockers.  That's why I present this special CD box set that presents all the great lost Guns N' Roses songs heard exclusively hear.  The CDs in this 5-disc set are titled as follows:

CD 1: Appetite For Destruction
CD 2: GN'R Lies
CD 3: Use Your Illusion I
CD 4: Use Your Illusion II
CD 5: "The Spaghetti Incident?"

Its difficult to put all the best gnr tracks onto 1 cd so I'll go with a 2 cd best of

CD 1

1. Welcome To The Jungle
2. Its So Easy
3. Live And Let Die
4. Mr Brownstone
5. Yesterdays
6. Knocking On Heavens Door
7. Sweet Child O Mine
8. You Could Be Mine
9. Estranged
10. Out Ta Get Me

CD 2

1. Civil War
2. November Rain
3. Dont Cry
4. Pretty Tied Up
5. Dont Damn Me
6. Garden of Eden
7. Patience
8. Rocket Queen
9. Nightrain
10. Paradise City

Special Hidden Tracks

1. Madagascar
2. The Blues
3. Chinese Democracy

I thought I'd add the best 3 of the Chinese Democracy as hidden tracks but if we aint counting New GnR stuff, just leave them off the list. [peace]

I tryed to reflect the recent set list from the tour cos WTTJ and PC should always start and end a show so putting them in that order would give new listeners an idea of what seeing GnR live is like. [ok]

CD 2 looks the stronger out of the 2 though, I'd prob have that in my CD player the most outta the 2 [hihi]

The first disc should be the songs that have videos.   and the second disc should just have a bunch of very cool and or underrated songs.  Has anybody ever seen Aerosmith's Gems album.  It's a compilation of songs that weren't singles and it rocks much more than theit hits album,  anyway here I go:

Disc: 1
Welcome to the jungle
Sweet child o' mine
Paradise city
Patience
You could be mine
Don't cry
Live and Let die
Yesterdays
November rain
Garden of eden
the Garden
Dead horse
Estranged
Since I don't have you
It;s so easy (live)

Disc: 2
Mr. Brownstone
Nightrain
Rocket queen
Reckless life
you're crazy (from lies)
Right next door to hell
Perfect crime
DOuble talkin jive (live tokyo)
Coma
Breakdown
Locomotive
Pretty tied up (live era)
Estranged
Human being
Ain't it fun
I don't care about you
Sympathy for the devil

May not fit but, oh well...

C.

I personally think this greatest hits thing is a bad idea but after seeing the line-up they should at least get a more decent line-up. I think the greatest hits cd should be more like this:

  1. Welcome To The Jungle
  2. Nightrain
  3. Paradise City
  4. Sweet Child Of Mine
  5. You're Crazy
  6. Patience
  7. One In A Million
  8. Live And Let Die
  9. You Ain't The First
10. Dead Horse
11. Garden Of Eden
12. Don't Cry (original)
13. November Rain
14. Estranged
15. Yesterdays
16. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
17. Civil War
18. You Could Be Mine
19. 14 Years
20. Ain't It Fun
21. Since I Don't Have You
22. Sympathy For The Devil
23. Oh My God

Plus two songs recorded but left off "Chinese Democracy" to round it out to an even twenty-five and give those who have every album and single a reason to buy the greatest hits cd.

Now I again say I'm against this greatest hits cd. I'm just showing how I'd deal with a greatest hits cd for Guns n' Roses. IMHO I think companies should wait until a band is officially disbanded to release a full greatest hits album. Just look at how many greatest hits things bands like Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones have.
