A ''darker'' Star Wars film? It's the dream......

LOS ANGELES -- George Lucas says the newest ? and final installment ? of his "Star Wars" films may get a PG-13 rating.

"I don't think I would take a 5- or a 6-year-old to this. It's way too strong," Lucas says of "Star Wars Episode III ? Revenge of the Sith" on CBS' "60 Minutes," to air Sunday (7 p.m. EST). "My feeling is that it will probably be a PG-13, so it will be the first `Star Wars' that's a PG-13."

"Revenge of the Sith," the third prequel to the "Star Wars" trilogy, will open May 19. The movie features Anakin Skywalker's transformation to Darth Vader, a descent based on Lucas' vision of hell, a mythical planet composed entirely of erupting volcanoes.

"We're going to watch him make a pact with the devil," says the director. "The film is more dark ... more emotional. It's much more of a tragedy."

Despite critical pans of Episodes I and II, Lucas says in the interview: "Actually, I am very happy. I'm very pleased with the whole thing."

PG-13 just because ******SPOILER*********
........................................

..........Anakin kills all the Jedi in the Temple including the young children and kills his pregnant wife (inadvertently) hardly seems enough for a PG-13 Roll Eyes

Uncle George got this one right, people might change there view of Episode 1 and 2 when they see how he ties everything up in number 3. This is the one fans have been waiting for since ROTJ in 1983. Uncle George delivers big time in this one. ok

this is not what i've been waiting for. we knew about the story for ever. and after ep 1 and 2, and the orientation GL took i'm not exited anymore.

i guess you cann never top masterpieces.
i was disapointed by the lord of the rings movies (maybe because i was waiting for them for so long, i was so involved in the "community" - just like this GNR one - that i was dispointed when the movies came out)

same thing with ep 1, i thought i was gonna be the best movie ever, and hop ... let down.

the great thing about ep 456 is that you can watch them separatly, so if GL was waiting for ep 3 to make ep 1 and 2 loook good .. that's sad.

Lucas is nuts.....

I have high hopes for Episode 3, what ruined the first two was the kiddie element -  a really dark adult star wars film can surely only promise good things as it immedietly addresses the biggest problem with the last lot.

Behave yourself or you'll get banned.

Episode 2 was fantastic compared to episode 1. What ruined the first one was...Jar Jar. And the rest. Ugh.

But I still liked both movies. Only those who were expecting their lives to be changed would have hated them. I enjoyed them both and can't wait for episode 3.

That's not entirely fair - they were aimed at 10 year olds, its hardly a surprise it alienated so many people.

I'm not going to write off Episode 3 until I see it... IMO, the first two movies were just good enough to give Lucas one shot to bring it all together in this last one.  A PG-13 rating can only be a good thing, but the problem wasn't just the "kiddie" factor... poor use of special effects and stiff acting were also a problem.

BTW, there better be a fuckin' explanation why Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin are the only Jedi who can turn into ghosts, AND why you heard Qui-Gonn yelling "Anakin, NO!" in Episode 2.  Liam Neeson has already stated he disliked Episode 1 and regrets being involved, so I sure hope they have a reason for that.

No, you guys are dumb. Both the 1st and 2nd episodes were good. The 1st one was kinda off but I really enjoyed the political nature of it. The 2nd one was more romance-filled and everything but I really enjoyed the 2nd episode.

Episode 3 has a chance of being good if they can make Anakin stop crying and whinning about everything ! That 's why episode two sucked ! how that little crybaby got queen amidala into bed is beyond me.
?

WAAAAWAAAAAAAAA   OBI WAN IS HOLDING ME BACK crying
NOBODY LOVES ME ?crying
WAAAAAAWAAAAA ?    I'M A BIG SCARED PUSSY crying
?
darth vader was supposed to be a great warrior. not a fucking girlyman.

I love the first 3, but episode one and two sucked.

I hope Lucas can redeem himself on episode 3.  I won't get my hopes up.

wrong:

The Star Wars franchise can no longer be taken seriously, according to one former Jedi master.
"Ummm, well, they've kind of got silly now, haven't they?" actor Liam Neeson told The Toronto Sun yesterday while doing interviews for his latest film, the forthcoming ensemble romantic comedy Love Actually.

"That last (Star Wars movie) was just pyrotechnics, you know," Neeson said of Episode II -- Attack of The Clones, lamenting that the "computerized stuff" fails to connect with either the actors or audiences.

Neeson said he expects nothing different when Episode III, in which he is not involved, is released in 2005 to complete the prequel trilogy.

Yet Neeson has no regrets about his own participation in Star Wars lore, despite feeling that he did less than stellar work in 1999 in Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace.

"The one I did, I loved working on it," he said, "and I loved working with George Lucas."

Neeson played Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi master knight who counsels Obi-Wan Kenobi and the young Anakin Skywalker.

"Admittedly," Neeson said with a wane smile, "we all come across as pretty wooden. But a lot of that was interacting with blue screen, which was difficult and was also a great challenge, you know, to try to make it seem as an everyday thing that (you're with) a winged beast that talks."

Blue screen is an in-studio process in which actors literally perform in front of a giant blue screen, replaced later with computerized special effects. "But listen," Neeson said, "I'm glad I did it."

I'll agree that the third film looks far superior to the ones preceding it.  But then again, that really isn't saying much.  This final installment of the prequels could be extremely good, but it still won't be anywhere near the original trilogy, nor make up for the damage the first two prequels have done.

AND why you heard Qui-Gonn yelling "Anakin, NO!" in Episode 2.

Don't remember that....

OK, my apologies... Thanks for posting that article Wooody, that was the one I read.  It was awhile ago, so I didn't remember exactly what Neeson had said.

Izzy, when Anakin kills the Tusken Raider camp, they show Yoda meditating and you hear Qui-Gonn going "Anakin, Anakin!" and then someone yells out "NOO!" (possibly Qui-Gonn again).  This is right before Windu arrives and Yoda does his "Something terrible has happened to Young Skywalker" speech.  I'm not sure if you've read the novels, but in the AOTC novel, at this part they mention that both Yoda AND Anakin can clearly hear Qui-Gonn's voice, but they are not sure of the meaning... what bothers me is that Liam Neeson said he won't be involved in the series anymore, so there might not be a definite answer to why we hear his voice in Episode 2 (or the ghost thing?).

I'd strongly suggest you read the novels... by putting the story down on paper it eliminates the wooden acting, poor effects, and I'm sure it probably helps with the "kiddie" factor.  I remember appreciating the story to The Phantom Menace a LOT more after reading the book.

Do we know if this movie is going to be longer than the others?  The problem with this movie, and also the last two, but mainly this one, is that it has a bunch of "checkpoints" to hit.  We know what happens in 4,5,6... so the goal of this movie is to hit all the checkpoints but to make it flow naturally and in an entertaining way.  I don't know if they can do that in 2 hours?

One of my biggest faults with this new trilogy is the pacing of it - there is so much stuff to cover and rather than it occuring throughout the three films it all has to be dumped into Episode 3. Episode 1 and the *cough* story it had could have been cut to 20 mins - it was just placing it all in a context and yet an entire film was absorbed by it.
