That's a question I get asked quite often here.

Here's the official answer: I pick people who I think could be moderators and then ask them.

None of the current moderators has asked me in advance.


The moderators are also people who have been visiting this board for quite a while so they know how this thing works.

So if someone asks to be a moderator, they automatically can't be one? no

What about later on when you do need moderators and I've been around?

I find it amazing how so many people want to become a moderator so badly. Apart from having the utmost privilege of being hated by hundreds of people and not even being paid for it, I can't see many advantages to that situation.
Oh yeah, of course it allows you to vent your bad mood on poor unsuspecting members, but that's about it.

I want to be a moderator very badly so I can use it on my resume. I find that a BA from UMass Boston just isn't cutting it in the job market rant ...
