I'm hoping to see it soon.  If not this weekend, then next weekend.  It looks really cool, the trailer at least got me interested without giving away the entire plot.

Depp is awesome!

Secret Window is the title of the movie.

And I want to see it.  It's based on a Stephen King story and it's got Johnny Depp in it.

Stephen King + Johnny Depp = must-see flick.   Cool

Thank goodness that question of mine was finally answered!  I saw the trailer a couple of weeks ago and said..."That's a Stephen King story," but never saw anything that said based on yada yada yada.

I enjoyed the story a lot, but am not a huge fan of movies based on King's books.  There have been a few good ones, but the majority seem to suck.  It's that same old line about the movie not living up to the book/not being the same.

Anyway, I love looking at Johnny Depp so I wouldn't mind seeing this movie at all.    Grin

Would a person with a weak bladder still be lost if she'd read the novelette, D?

*I'm pretty sure this wasn't a full novel but a rather longish short story that was published in a collection.  But, I'm not sure and I'm too lazy to look through my books for it.

And, EVH...  I'm just not going to "listen" to your opinion about Depp.   Tongue

Secret Window, Secret Garden
Get Showtimes
Starring :  Johnny Depp, Maria Bello, Charles Dutton, Timothy Hutton, Ving Rhames
Directed by :  David Koepp
Produced by :  Pariah Entertainment Group
Written by :  Stephen King, David Koepp

Genre :  Drama, Thriller
MPAA Rating :  PG-13 - for violence/terror, sexual content and language
Runtime :  1 hr. 46 mins.
Release Date :  Mar. 12, 2004

Though he knows he should be at his computer writing another book, or at least walking his dog along the sparkling lake outside his dingy cabin, successful author Mort Rainey is sleeping on his favorite sofa for up to 16 hours a day. He is in the midst of a painful divorce and everything about the breakup has turned messy and unpleasant. It has sapped his energy and siphoned away his creativity, leaving him with a monumental case of writer's block that renders him incapable of even stringing a simple sentence together. Then, when it seems as if things can't possibly get worse, a psychotic stranger named John Shooter shows up at his doorstep, accuses Rainey of plagiarizing his story and demands satisfaction. Despite Rainey's efforts to placate him, Shooter becomes increasingly insistent and hostile, intimating a twisted sort of justice that could include cold-blooded murder. Forced into a mind-bending game of cat and mouse, Rainey discovers that he has more cunningness and gritty determination than he ever imagined. In the end, he realizes that elusive Shooter may know him better than he knows himself.

I saw the movie last night.  You know, the premise of the movie Identity is exactly like this one.  It's a wonder Stephen King didn't take a page out of John Shooter's book and sue the writers of Identity for copying his story.

Sorry to correct you again (I'm a perfectionist!), the Stephen King novella was entitled Secret Window, Secret Garden.  But the movie that we saw on the screen had the title Secret Window and it has been promoted under that title since the beginning.

I'm scratching my head wondering if I have read this story already...

You say 'novella' - was it included with some other short stories in one book?  Like '4 Past Midnight'?   I think they made a TV drama out of the first short story in that book - it's been so long I cant remember the name  Undecided

I probably am wrong but i think the short story this movie is based on is included in the "Changing Seasons" short story collection Stephen King published awhile ago. I have the book somewhere and I remember it is made up of 4 short stories. By the way, there are a few good film adaptions of Stephen King stories people!!! The Green Mile was simply fantastic! and...Stand By Me, easily one of the best films ever yes

I thought that Depp was at his best in this movie. However, the film itself was overly predictable. Almost from the moment Shooter showed up, I could tell it was one of those Fight Club/split personality films. Or Identity as someone else said. I have never read the book but I am sure it is 10 times better.

He also does a great job in 'Chocolat' - he lives on a riverboat and steals the show in every scene he's in.  Good movie overall, although it made me hungry for chocolate.  drool

Secret Window was a good movie, and Johnny was top notch as usual. All the eccentric little nuances that he added to the character (the jaw popping, and flapping his hands after washing them - instead of using a towel, etc.), really made him that much more interesting to watch the entire time.

I've seen nearly every one of Johnny Depp's movies, and in each one he has delivered the same level of complete devotion and absorption to his characters, that no other actor today even comes close to reaching, in my opinion.

Any Depp diehards here need to check out his first two films....

A Nightmare on Elm Street -- JD's first film and one of the all-time classic horror movies.  Forget the tepid sequels.

Private Resort -- JD's second film, a typical 80s sex comedy.  Guys will like the naked girls.  Girls will like the naked Johnny Depp (brief ass shot).

SHIT!   Embarrassed  You had the title right, the title I mentioned was another movie (with no Johnny Depp).  Private Resort is the actual title of JD's second movie.  Sorry about that chief, thanks for the correction.
