Richard Fortus, the phenomenon

Not a topic on this fantastic band yet? How is it possible? One of the greatest band of all time. You can see sometimes a Dire Straits influence in the GN'R music.

One song that will change your life: Telegraph Road (Live version) 18 minutes long.  Genius.

A great band fronted by an incredible guitarist... Sultans of Swing, Heavy Fuel, Walk of Life, On Every Street, the list goes on... Got too bloated in the end though, with 9 members and all...  peace

Where are Guns N' Roses influenced by Dire Straits? Emphasis on the word DIRE.

In the Slash guitar playing. I bet anything Knopfler is one of his influence.

Knopfler is amazing. Great songwriter and guitarist, his lyrics are pretty cool also.

"Sultans Of Swing", "Telegraph Road" and "Tunnel Of Love" are some of the most beautiful songs ever written.

However, I don't hear any of Knopfler's tone or style in GN'R at all. Slash's main influences are Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. You can hear it. Knopfler's influences go back to the 50's, he uses a lot of clean tones, plays with his fingers only (= without a pick), uses a tremolo and his favourite sound effect is the volume pedal. Not much like Slash at all...

Whatever, fantastic music. Check out the quadrophonic guitar solo in "Where Do You Think You're Going" - it's only a few seconds, but it's out of this world. Right after where he goes "Come on..." - crank up the volume there, the guitars flow around like crazy. Good stuff!  Grin

so that ending solo in 'Sultans of Swing' he played it with just his fingers?  That's pretty cool.  I love that song  Smiley
