...the concert was sold out, cancelled, or you simply got snubbed by GnR? I have accepted the fact that I will probably never, EVER get a chance to see my alltime favorite band seeing as how four times, FOUR TIMES, Axl and crew have evaded me!

The first time was back in June of '91, when GnR was coming with Skid Row to the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. I lived in Virginia Beach, a mere 15 minutes away from this venue, and had been psyched out for MONTHS at the prospect of seeing my favorite band live. Unfortunately, I was a young naive kid and didn't know about the concept of "sold out", which this concert was by the time a buddy of mine and I were dropped off at the Coliseum to get our tickets. I think I cried like a little bitch when I saw all these people who had their tickets beforehand walz into the arena and we sat there hoping to see some scalpers (which never came).

Fast forward about 11 years later, and I find myself stationed in Belgium. There is this music festival that will be going on literally DOWN THE STREET from my house called Pukkelpop in Hasselt (I live in Neerpelt, trust me, it's close), and much to my chagrin, the 'new" GnR will be playing it. I waste no time in getting a ticket for it many weeks ahead of the show, thinking "hell yeah, now I can make up for that time I missed them as a kid!" Well...not so much, as this little place called Afghanistan was causing the good ol' USA some problems at the time, and I along with many others get sent there to keep the peace or whatever it was. I miss Pukkelpop by three weeks, and once again, GnR eludes me. I end up giving my ticket to a Belgian friend of mine who says the show was awesome? Cry

Well, after I get done with that business in the desert, I get some much needed R&R time back in the states. I arrive home in Virginia in December, see the infamous video of GnR at the VMAs, and then hear all about the tour they are on. My fiance at the time, knowing all about my troubles with GnR in the past, goes on ebay and got me two FRONT ROW CENTER tickets to the show at the MCI Center in Washington DC. I can't freaking wait! Surely THIS time I'll be able to see them, I mean hell, it's a World Tour!

Well, we all know what happened then. Axl doesn't show up in Philly, and the tour is cancelled...three days before I was supposed to see them. I read about it here on HTGTH when I was looking for info on the MSG show, so I would know what to expect. First thing I see....DC: Cancelled. At this point I curse Axl and the name GnR and swear to never listen to another one of their damn CDs again. Well...that lasts all of a day or two, and me and a buddy go see Appetite for Destruction, a really good GnR cover band at the NorVa in Norfolk. If you ever get the chance and live on the east coast, check them out. Anyhow, it is again at this point that I lose all hope of ever seeing GnR live.? no

UNTIL....Rock in Rio 4 in Lisbon. I find out about this, and I hold off from buying a ticket or making any travel plans. Three times I had missed out on GnR and I wasn't going to let Rio be number 4. But....I couldn't help it. I put in for leave, make travel arrangements, and I'm on my way to Rock in Rio 4 to see GnR!

Then Buckethead quits, Axl releases his statement, and it's a no-go for GnR at Rio. I once again read all about it here on HTGTH. And to tell the truth...I'm not one bit surprised. Pissed and upset yeah, but surprised? Nah. I just get wasted that night in a bar down in the centrum.? beer

So there you have it...four times I set out to see GnR, and four times I was deniiiiiiiied. Maybe it's just destiny for me to never see the band live, I dunno. I'm not going to lie though...if they put out tour dates again (and I'm confident they will, one day) I'll probably buy a ticket to go see them. Does that make me a sucker? Maybe...but I like to think of it more as being a loyal, true fan. Chinese Democracy being delayed so many times doesn't bother me so much, as I've had to have more patience when it comes to this band than waiting for an album to come out. And I'm sure it will, one day. Then maybe I can finally see my favorite band since I was in grade school play live in concert.? ?ok

So....anybody else have some stories on how they were going to see GnR, but somehow it eluded them?

Dude. All I can say is you are one motherfucking helluva fan to even give a rat's ass about Axl after all of the times you have missed them.

I will admit I am just as bad as you, I flew 1500 miles through the worst blizzard of the year in '02 to catch them at MSG, which I did do but it took me from 10am to 9pm to complete the 3 hour flight and a lot of "getting assertive" with airline personnel. Sorry don't mean to rub it in or anything but just want you to know I can "relate".

I hope you get to see Axl one day.

It is people like yourself and posts such as this that really forms a horrible taste in my mouth in regards to Axl. I hope he realizes there are probably 1000's of stories just like this one kicking around out there.

To be fair to Axl, not one of the four times was really his fault. They sold out the Coliseum because they were just the shit. Pukkelpop was just bad timing. The 2002 tour, well, you could blame Axl for that, but when did GnR EVER show up and play on time? That was more or less ClearChannel, I think. And Buckethead leaving was his decision, which put Axl and Co. in a bad spot. I got really pissed to where I wanted to kick Axl in the balls at the time, but I never held any resentment toward him afterwards. I'm just a fan and I hope see him the band and the album one day. ?ok

And a big thanks to you too for your support! beer

I missed out on seeing them in London, 2002. I couldn't find any place to stay the night in London (feeble, I know), and thought to myself, "Well, they're sure to have the album out soon; I'll catch them next time they're in town." I'm still kicking myself...

In 2001 I travelled from Peru to Florida to catch U2 elevation tour (which I did) and Slash Snakepit + AC/DC, low and behold Slash got the "flu" and had to watch some shitty opening band instead of my hero  Cry

In 2002 again I made plans to fly and catch Axl in Florida, got the ticket and the arrangements and a mere week before Axl and Co. cancel the show. AGH!

In 2005 I decided to go to Argentina and on purpose booked the trip at the same time Steve Adler and Izzy Stradlin where gonna play there, well some fire happened in Bs As and the scrapped all concerts AGH OH AGH!

So only Duff is left to screw me over... common Im waiting motherfucker!  hihi

I saw the Gn'R 3 times and Axl's new GnR once.. But I did have 2 shows canceled on me back in the Skin N' Bones tour... They were like 8th and 10th row too.. I had never been that close.  Little did I know, I would never see them again. It was when Gilby broke his wrist and they didn't make those ones up... One actually was rescheduled, but there was a blizzard that day so they cancled it. Either that or there was a blizzrd and it was rescheduled then they canceled it when he broke his wrist..

Last year, in RIR, my sister bought tickets for her self and her boyfriend and thougth of buying a tiket to my self as an anniversary gift that was close at the time! Well, like averybody knows it, they cancelled due to that infamous Buckethead! I hate him since that! crying

I could have seen them in Paris in 1993, but I was only 15 at the time. No one would go with me and I guess I was a bit scared to be on my own. I spent the whole evening banging my head against the walls, and I still feel like doing it when I think about it  hihi

Then I had a ticket for Barcelona 2001, but of course that was cancelled.
And another for the final show in L.A in 2002, cancelled as well.

Thankfully, in the meantime I had gotten to see them at Docklands Arena. And what a show it was !

Well friends, I only had a chance to see GNR live, and it was in  Rock in Rio II,  but damn it was too expensive, and Im in Bolivia, even when Brazil is not too far from it, I didnt have the money, I was 16 too, and my parents didnt give me any permission to go...  then, They never did a Latin American tour, in 2002 even when Axl wanted to play in Chile and Argentina,  I hope some day being able to have enough money to go, and maybe I will see them Live,  its my dream I must confess it, and I have dreamed about it thrice,  and Even in my dreams, when I want to sing the songs, Axl suddenly  dissapears, and in the other one, It turns out that it wasnt a GNR concert, and in the last one, I finally sang with Axl, but he turned out to be an imitator, so I dont even have a good time in my dreams... maybe someday it will be fullfilled....

Well the only thing Id like to add,  that I would really like Axl to play in Bolivia, why?  because its the centre of Latin America, and I assure him that if he does it, the whole continent will gather to see the band playing, it will be an amazing experience, considering that guys around the continent will come, and possibly destroy the city Cheesy  well Axl, you have another choice....

I found a scalper and decided to go on a whim.." Embarrassed

I have always wanted to see GNR live, but never got the chance when I was younger (I was only 8 when Appetite came out).  When I heard they were touring after their VMA appearance, I was really psyched.  Finally, after all of these years, I would get to see GNR, albeit with a different band backing Axl.  I quickly booked tickets for the show in Tampa, Florida.  During the tour, I tracked the shows on this website to see how the tour was going.  For some odd reason (maybe I'm cynical), I thought it was too good to be true that I actually had tickets to see them.  My gut instinct was right - the Philly riots ended my hopes of seeing them live (at least for now).

A year later, I moved to Pittsburgh.  Now I listen to the Blues track from that show (amazing!).  Bad timing I guess.

I didn't read any of the other posts but here goes............

I had tickets to the opening day of the UYI tour at Alpine Valley in Janesville Wisconsin May 24, 1991.? On the way there we were pulled over.? Driver got a DUI and me and my old man hitchhiked from Janesville Wis. to Rockford, Ill.

Then I had tickets to see them on April 10, 1992 in Chicago at the Rosemont Horizon (now the Allstate Arena).? 15 minutes before the doors were to open the security came out into the parking lot and said that the show was canceled.

Finally got to see them on March 20 1993 in Iowa City, IA at the Carver Hawkeye Arena and then the new band on November 17, 2002 at the Mark in Moline, IL

...the concert was sold out, cancelled, or you simply got snubbed by GnR?

I end up giving my ticket to a Belgian friend of mine who says the show was awesome  Cry

Anyhow, it is again at this point that I lose all hope of ever seeing GnR live.

Nah. I just get wasted that night in a bar down in the centrum.

Then maybe I can finally see my favorite band since I was in grade school play live in concert.   ok

So....anybody else have some stories on how they were going to see GnR, but somehow it eluded them?

So it's YOU we have to blame for all the cancelled tours! Get him!

I was bookin' my trip to Rio to see them in RIR3, but my cousin and a friend screwed me and I hadn't a place to stay there for the weekend (the show was sunday night). So, I just had to watch the whole show live on tv (wich is not as good, but was so fuckin' cool).

At least I got the money for the trip and I bought my first eletric guitar! Tongue

 hihi? peace

HA, I was thinking the same thing! Maybe the GnR community should get a restraining order against me from ever trying to see them again? hihi

In all reality, if a THIRD concert is cancelled that's I'm supposed to go to, I think I'll have to keep away from them...for the good of the rest of the fans!? Wink

Well, in 1992, I almost won tickets to see them in Paris. It was a radio competition ; the question was : "How many members are there in Gn'R". So I was like, piece of cake. I came in first on the phone, too. But when I said "six", the voice said, "No, I'm sorry, the correct answer is 5." I pleaded & pleaded in defence of Dizzy, but to no avail. Let me tell you I was quite angry !

I was 14 years old and bought a ticket to see GnR in Milton Keynes (93 ??) - think this was the gig they played with Izzy as Gilby had broken his wrist.  I lived in Scotland then - and GnR NEVER came to scotland....grrrrrrr - my parents wouldnt let me go - MONTHS of persuading and taking a shitty job to pay my way didnt talk them round.  I was even gonna pay for them to come with me just so I could go.

Day of the gig I ducked school and headed to the train station to go to milton keynes (about 7 hours away!) and there was my mum and dad at the station......   they said they just knew I would try and go.

it still hurts.....

Me and my budy we're driving up to L.A. from San diego here to see GN'R when they opened up for Aerosmith in '88 I believe it was. We were all pumped and partying on the way up then BOOM!!  my car broke down the freeway.........  Missed the show and had to call friends to get us.  At that time the most depressing moment of my life......... ...the concert was sold out, cancelled, or you simply got snubbed by GnR?

Cry

Wow, what really bad luck. I had 2002 tickets for GNR but the show was  cancelled about 2 weeks before. On the other hand, I have seen VR 3 times without any problems (just had to throw that in there although I realize  it is not technically relevant to the original thread).
