After reading some of what I have read (to my dismay) here lately, this really hit the nail on the head.

***********

"Psychopathic personalities, or ?PPs.?

To say somebody is a PP is to make a perfectly respectable medical diagnosis, like saying he or she has appendicitis or athlete?s foot. The classic medical text on PPs is The Mask of Sanity by Dr. Hervey Cleckley. Read it! PPs are presentable, they know full well the suffering their actions may cause others, but they do not care. They cannot care because they are nuts. They have a screw loose!

And what syndrome better describes so many executives at Enron and WorldCom and on and on, who have enriched themselves while ruining their employees and investors and country, and who still feel as pure as the driven snow, no matter what anybody may say to or about them? And so many of these heartless PPs now hold big jobs in our federal government, as though they were leaders instead of sick.

What has allowed so many PPs to rise so high in corporations, and now in government, is that they are so decisive. Unlike normal people, they are never filled with doubts, for the simple reason that they cannot care what happens next. Simply can?t. Do this! Do that! Mobilize the reserves! Privatize the public schools! Attack Iraq! Cut health care! Tap everybody?s telephone! Cut taxes on the rich! Build a trillion-dollar missile shield! Fuck habeas corpus and the Sierra Club and In These Times, and kiss my ass!"

This guy has absolutely no training to make any allegation like this.  He's a socialist with a history of mental problems throwing around terms he has only a passing understanding of for political reasons.

In short it's all blah blah blah. Roll Eyes

Sorry SLC, but this may be the one of the stupidest things I have seen posted on this board.  And believe me, there has been a lot of competition this week.

Kurt Vonnegut is stupid? LOL, sure.....How many novels has he written and how many has anybody here written? I digress.

I liked the quote because it summed up about 3-6 posters on this board. Grin

I don't care if you liked it or not. There is a majority on this board and then there are the half a dozen that match KV's quote.

I think it's funny to see hypocrites and liars come out to call this guy a fruitcake.....it's probably the best laugh I've had all week.

Stupid?  No.  I never said he was stupid.  In fact, he is a brilliant novelist.  I have read plenty of Vennegut, probably as much as most people here.  I would hardly consider him as authority for diagnosiing someone with a "screw loose."  I like Vonnegut, but if you have actually read him you will understand what I am talking about.  This guy is as left-wing as they come, and hardly an authority to judge those that disagree with him.

Maybe my post was a little over the edge, but I couldn't help myself when I was that created an entire thread on Vonnegut's quote.  I also found it ironic, for someone that constantly complains that his different view points aren't respected and that people have the right to disagree, that you would call someone that disagrees with you a psychopathic personallity.

Vonnegut was on Bill Maher last week and said that the human race is a plague on the Earth and that we should wipe ourselves out like Syphillis with a conscience.  That's the kind of guy I would quote if I wanted to be taken seriously  Roll Eyes

Haha, well he has a point doesn't he? We destroy this planet and each other, and almost always have. We are horrible to one another. His comment(s) were intended to make us think about it more than anything. And he does have a point after all, the people (Read: People like you) who condone violence, lies, greed, and scoff at helping their fellow man, ARE a plague on the earth.

First of all I don't constantly complain that my "different viewpoints aren't respected." Mostly because they aren't that "different". Nearly half the country (more now, we are in the majority) and the majority of the world have supported my views since the start.

This is disappointing yet again GNRNIGHTTRAIN. This reminds me of a post I read last night that asked "Why do you take this out of context?"

I don't call people who disagree with me nuts, I call people who lie NO MATTER WHAT THE EVIDENCE nuts. You could tell them the sky is blue and they'd say "No it's not, we have Intel that proves the sky is green." That type of behavior, to me, is indeed crazy. I also call people who say one thing, then turn around and say another (just another form of lying really) nuts. Because that is not rational behavior. I call people who call dead children "collateral damage" nuts. To brush off the death of civilians as "something we have to do to free a country" is insane. THAT is what I call nuts, not somebody who disagrees with me.

I condone violence when necessary, so unless you're a pacifist we just disagree on what justifies violent force.  Then again liberals always turn tail and change opinions after the war starts.

Over half the country and your constituency must be liars and war mongers because there was a huge support for the war ( I don't have figures in front of me, but if memory serves correct about 70%) before things went south; just like in Vietnam.  However, as I've stated many times, I am against the WAR IN IRAQ, I was against it from day one.   However, I believe that Bush thought there were WMD's in Iraq and that since we're there now we need to finish the job.  I care about the American soldeir enough to try to prevent us from going back there in another 10 years.

You got me on greed.  I love capitalism and personal desire for wealth and security is the true driving force behind the economy and the greatest nation of the world.  That being said, I'm an Eagle Scout and consistenly help out through church organizations - although I myself am an agnostic.  I base my moral theory on Kant, and if you know anything about Kant - well you don't so I'll leave it at that.

Once again SLC, get a fucking clue before you post.  You know dick shit about me and as always resort to personal attacks to discredit anyone you don't agree with (in fact isn't that why you started this thread).   I may be a "psychopath" but you're just fucking retarded.

This is the first time ?I've heard of this chap, so he could be a complete fuckin fruitcake but 50% of the above statement (about the human race being a plague on the Earth) is right. Almost every activity we participate in for profit harms the environment, wildlife or ourselves in some way. Now about wiping ourselves out like "Syphillis with a conscience", that's going a bit too far!

People are not liars or warmongers by changing their position when provided with the truth.

Support topped out at 69%...and that was before the first bomb was even dropped. ?It ?declined when Iraq provided their disclosure (it dropped steeply to about 56%, at that point), came back up into the low 60's in the following weeks, and hovered in, or around (as in, just under) the 50's throughout the election. ?Since the election, and as more and more information has come to light (and as things have gotten worse and worse over there) that number has dropped, consistently.

Vonnegut is very sarcastic, and has a very dry sense of humor.  I doubt he meant it literally.  It was said, I'm sure, to call attention to the state of man on this planet.

And hell, didn't Agent Smith espouse the same thing in "The Matrix"?  It's not like it's much of an original "thought"....others have said it to prod precisely the effect I mention.

Here are some of my most recent "lies", care to refute them?

1. No WMD
2. 2000 soldier deaths
3. 10000 injuried
4. National Deficit in the billions
5. No link to Osama
6. No Osama found
7. Oil higher than ever
8. Halliburton getting away with price gouging the American public
9. Chenney still on the payroll with Halliburton
10. Bush Polls sink
11. NCLB underfunded
12. Big Pharma is the winner of the Medicare bill, not citizens
13. Bush response to Hurricane poor
14. Fema appointee is Bush's buddy, has no experience, causing human lives to be lost
16. Despite claim that we "take it to them" terror attacks occur in London
17. CIA operative "outed" after husband disagrees with war, swept under carpet

That's just off the top of my head.

Big pack of lies, all of them..... Roll Eyes

Yeah, but when so many people here are taking it as a serious comment, it kinda has to be adressed that way to have a proper discussion. I've never heard of this guy before too, so I don't know what approach he takes to different issues. I'm sure there are plenty of fuckin nutters out there that actually would feel this way. How was I to know he wasn't one of them?
