When all I've got is precious time

« on: October 07, 2005, 05:19:04 PM »

taken from sludge
its from the poster madagascar
as with all things like this, take it with a grain of salt

forgot to post this here - I called Dizzy Reed (keyboardist of GnR) the other day.

Basically, the intent of my call was to ask him about whether we could book his touring band, Hookers N Blow in Spring 2006 at my fraternity, which he replied was a possibility.

But, I also asked him a few questions that fans had on their minds. These questions had the following responses (for those who care):

(1) He does not know about the rumor that GnR will have a new song on the soundtrack for the movie "Da Vinci Code" - its a possibility for its Spring 2006 release but its something that Axl's dealing with

(2) Buckethead's guitar parts will remain on Chinese Democracy.

(3) Chris Pittman, 2nd keyboardist, is still in GnR.

(4) the epic track "Catcher in the Rye" will be on Chinese Democracy and is written by Axl based upon the book of the same name and will have a different sound from UYI epics.

Full interview synopsis can be viewed here: http://www.mygnrforum.com/index.php?showtopic=51729

From the last time I contacted him, he told me that Silkworms & Rhiad & Bedouins will NOT be on Chinese Democracy. They were simply test tracks that the band tried out during the 2001-2002 tour.

O, and on the topic... I think it will have slightly better success that Velvet Revolver w/ good reviews. It'll prob. sell 2-3 million in first year. Maybe explode in the future though once the music scene changes...

Hope this helps!

I like this interview. I'm not surprised that Silkworms and Riyadh will not be on the album. Even though Im not a fan of Riyadh, I was looking forward to hearing a studio version of it. We basically already knew that BH would still be on the album. Best news here is about Catcher in the Rye. This is the song I'm anticipating the most, and these new comments make me want it even more. Dizzy confirms its not about John Lennon. If its based on the book, maybe Axl was inspired by the character's nervous breakdown. Obviously, he can relate to it. hihi Its funny how after all these years of hell, we sometimes get a glimpse of heaven! beer

Riyadh will most likely be a B side to one of the singles. But the good news if you want to look at it like this is we will only have heard 4 songs off the album and not 6 like we thought.

Too bad about Riyadh.  But this could be a "measuring stick" of how good the songs are on CD.  I'm sure Axl reads the boards and knows of a good portion of the fans online like Riyadh, perhaps Axls confident that he has alot better up his sleeve.

Funny. Fortus said once that Rhyiad is gonna be on the album. Tongue

I just hope Rhyiad will be released in studio version (I don't care if it's gonna be on the album, could be a B-side). It's my favourite new song.  Cry

Makes me happy after so long of a wait I rather have material I have never heard before.. Neither song was ever memorable to me or anything long lasting so that leaves room for two more gems

I knew 'Silkworms' didn't have a snowball's chance, but I think 'Riyadh' WILL be on the album. It already have a cult following and has so much potential...

Agreed wholeheartedly.  Those 2 don't hold a candle to earlier GnR works or The Blues or Madagascar.  Axl may be psychotic but he knows how to write a song and it wouldn't surprise me that he won't release those two on CD.  Of course that also assumes that CD will EVER come out or that the post on Sludge was accurate.

thanks dave.

would if be okay if the inverview synopsis was copy/pasted here?

and was it Madison that interviewed Dizzy?

As for what's 'revealed' about Silkworms and Ryhiad - I too hope that these songs will have a studio release in some form

I wanted to write the same joke  ok

BTW at least Axl realized that these songs are extremely weak tracks. As for the contradiction between Ricard's and Dizzy's words: they don't know anything, all of the players are out of the loop.

I dont know, I was thinking, maybe over the span of the last three, or four years, Axl made a change or two to the track lineup.

I personally really took a liking to Silkworms.  It was short, right to the point, but frickin tough.  The beginning I thought was very cool (different, but in a cool Pink Floyd type of way), and then towards the end when Axl was screaming and then the music all of a sudden comes to a stop, I really liked that.

I never did think Silkworms was going to be on the CD.
I mean... its kind of interesting... but definitely not what you want to put on the "Classic Biggest Comeback of All Time" CD. "Pussy full of maggots" doesn't really seem to fit on a masterpiece CD....

I hope to hear Rhyiad at some point though.
