Worst Deaths in Music

#1. Dimebag Darrell- The 9/11 of heavy metal. Dimebag was a riff machine who revolutionized metal in the post-thrash environment. Ironically, the killer believed Dimebag caused Pantera to break up, even though it was Anselmo's drug abuse.
#2. Cliff Burton- Metallica never was the same after his death.
#3. Randy Rhoads- He was very talented for his age and made some great riffs and solos. He could have been unbelievable if he lived longer.
#4. Chuck Schuldiner- He made intelligent death metal that was still as heavy as anything Cannibal Corpse did. Cancer killed him. Cancer sucks. 
#5. Quorthon- Bathory was one of the most important first wave black metal bands, and a driving force in creating beautiful viking metal, long before the lame NSBM imitators emerged.
#6. Phil Lynott- After a short slump, Thunder and Lightning was one of Thin Lizzy's heaviest albums to date. It was also their last. I think the band would have made a great metal band if they just lasted a little longer!
#7. Euronymous and Dead- Mayhem was an interesting band that changed black metal forever. Dead committed suicide and Euronymous was murdered by Varg. But for a short time, they were the premier 2nd wave black metal band!
#8. Freddy Mercury- Despite Queen's up and down career, Freddy was consistenty great at showmanship and singing. Very few frontment can compare to him.
#9. Piggy- Voivod was one of the most unique, interesting thrash metal bands of its time. Like Schuldiner, it was cancer that killed him. Cancer sucks. 
#10. John Lennon- After a long slump and many bad Ono songs, he was beginning to get back into music, and perhaps even a great comeback after a mediocre initial return album. He never got a 2nd chance, as he was murdered.

While those are all tragic, Lennon is the most tragic. Flawed, but my hero. And I reject the notion that he had a slump or that "Double Fantasy" was mediocre. That album is fucking great.

After that, Cobain.

Dime and Pantera revolutionised heavy music more than any other metal band aside from Black Sabbath. That is the most fucked up moment in music history ever.

I would say Mercury for the great charisma he put in every show.
Lennon he was a very controversial guy yet had great ideas in life and music.
Cliff burton even though he couldn't reach his highest peak with Metallica it's a great loss
Randy also was a great influence in a lot of guitar players of heavy metal

Pantera was still putting out great songs (before the breakup) and Dimebag still had a lot of riffs left in him. Guys like Elvis and Cash were more or less burned out and finishing up their careers. Dimebag's death was worse because he could still make great music.

Well you're right to a degree, Lizzy were allegedly told that their planned tour would fail unless they promoted it as a "Farewell Tour" and so they agreed it was time to end the band, Philip put out another album and formed Grandslam. Eventually Lynott, Downey, Gorham and Sykes decided to reform but unfortunetly Phil overdosed so it couldn't happen.

Led Zeppelin was on the way downhill even before he died. In Through The Out Door is an abomination to what LZ put out earlier. There's a huge difference in a burned out rock star like Elvis dying and a young talent who dies before his peak.

You could easily turn it around that way (Fucking idiot shouldn't have pointed the gun at his head? I know, I'm goin straight to hell ) ANd Joplin Killed herself from Alcohol and Hendrix OD'd and Morrison too and Hoon as well, and Elvis ate himself to death , Bon Scott choked on his own vomit, Mercury fucked too many guys with aids. In short Staley's addiction was no worse than anyone else's.

I know - thats why i haven't mentioned them (except Freddy - AIDS can get the most careful person, it would be unfair to blame him for it without knowing exactly how it happened)

The rest were idiots who didn't appreciate what they had and had it taken away from them - thats probably justice in a way. Idiots that throw up in their sleep should learn to make themselves sick before they go to sleep, or have someone watch over them or just fucking drink less - its less a tragedy than stupidity)

Stayley shot himself up with heroin when he could have got help at any time, it was his choice not to go to rehab, and he paid for it

Same goes for Steve Clarke of Def Leppard - idiot mixed pescribtion drugs and alchohal, totally stupid.

Cliff Burton is a tragedy, guy did nothing wrong, same with Dimebag - but most of the rest killed themselves through their own carelessness

Oh fuck yeah i forgot about him. And it's kinda funny too cuz it was this guy that got me into GnR in the first place.

Here's the story, When i was a kid it was the beginning of the whole "Drugs are bad Mmmm-Kay" campaign and being a kid at the time I was totally hooked on it, So since GnR were such badasses I thought they were stupid cuz they did drugs and Def Leppard was really cool cuz they didn't ( dumb, i know, but i was a kid) Well around '88-'89 there was this story on the news or in the paper ( I can't remember) that Steve Clark from DefLeppard was arrested for drug posession (cocaine i think) in a Limo in LA or something. Well then I said that's stupid and I still liked DefLeppard so i decided to give GnR a shot and I traded my Great White cassette for Lies and AFD from some kid and I never turned back. That's how i got into GnR

definitely one of the greatest blues guitarists that ever lived. seriously fucked up his life turned it around then died tragically 3years later. everytime i listen to his last show i wish i could transport myself to that show and tell him not to get in that damn helicopter.
