Well there's only about a month left, so there won't be too many more releases in 2005 (other than a bunch of hits packages).  So which album was the best of 2005?

I only bought 4 or 5 CDs that were released this year... Overall I'd have to give it to: Kanye West - Late Registration -- That's two classic hip hop albums in as many years.  It's got a lot of guest appearances, but none of them overshadow Kanye (except maybe Jay-Z).  Refreshing to hear something different than 50 Cent with mainstream appeal.

My other favourites are Gorillaz & Common... Rock didn't do much for me this year, I'm still mixed on Audioslave's new one.

Nine Inch Nails "With Teeth" is the best album of the year. Trent Reznor can still write angry rock songs as well as beautiful ballads.

Other great ones are Audioslave "Out Of Exile" (full of great songs) and Depeche Mode "Playing The Angel" (noise can be a beautiful thing)

Foo Fighters "In Your Honor" and Queens Of The Stone Age "Lullabies To Paralyze" were also enjoyable.

Best compilation of the year was Screaming Trees "Ocean Of Confusion".

Don't Believe The Truth - Oasis
A Bigger Bang - The Rolling Stones
Hot Fuss - The Killers (I think this might have been 2004 actually but I got the re-release which must have been 2005).

For me there hasn't been a single album released this year worth the time it took to record....

Oh wait, i remembered one decent album this year produced,

Opeth - Ghost Reveries - melodic death metal, or something like that - its a fine album, helped immensly by leaving cookie monster vocals to a minimum, shows off their superb musical abilities, great arrangements, and some powerhouse riffs, my album of the year, against zero competition.....victory by default hihi

Yep, very very much like Tool, the same kind of vocals and that incredible musical depth to everything they do

Opeth's best albums are Deliverance and Blackwater Park. I'm not a huge Opeth fan, but I listen to them sometimes. If you like Opeth, Agalloch and Arcturus are similar, but much better. Opeth has some decent songs I enjoy, but the others create some absolutely beautiful folk/ambient/post-black/whatever music. They're definitely album type bands, where it's the whole thing at once or nothing.
