If Englad keep playing like this they won't go anywhere, I'm expecting a hard match between Equador x England, both have a regular team....

You may be right, but England have a tendency to play as well as their opponents...whoever their opponents are Wink

Well, Owen's out for the rest of the tournament so that doesn't bare well. Undecided

It definately looks like it was a bad idea to bring in Walcott and drop Defoe.? Only Sven would make such a reckless gamble with so much at stake.? We still do have a good chance of winning the competition but i'm not feeling all that confident at the moment.? I'd say Argentina, Brazil, Italy and Holland all have a much better chance right now, but maybe i'm wrong.? I do tend to be. ok

It'll be interesting to have another look at Portugal later on...

If Sven had the balls to pick Walcott, he should play Walcott.

Sven has no idea. He said when he picked the squad that Joe Cole could play the second striker role, despite never having played the position in his career. Then, 8 days later when a journalist asked him if he was considering using Joe Cole in the second striker role for one of the friendlies Sven said that Joe Cole has never played there and that he hadn't considered it.

Sven says Crouch and Gerrard won't play any part in the Sweden game. Well, we know what happened there. He clearly has no faith or confidence in Walcott or Carrick, so why didn't he go for the tried and trusted in the squad and pick Emile Heskey and Nicky Butt? Roll Eyes

According to Sky Sports News, Owen has a cruciate ligament injury and is out for 5 months.

Knowing how slowly Owen seems to recover in comparison to other players, I doubt we'll see him playing again before 2007.

It definately looks like it was a bad idea to bring in Walcott and drop Defoe.

As far as I'm concerned, Walcott was a goood gamble, and it was Hargreaves who came instead of Defoe. We should have taken five strikers! Taking four, with one of them being Walcott, was always going to be a fucking joke.

Though, mayb Walcott really is that damn good that Sven doesn't want the world to see him before the group stage is over, doesn't want the later, much harder, opponents getting a look at him...

Clutching at straws, I know.  Undecided

If Owen hadn't have landed on his leg like an idiot, and the Crouch substitution wasn't forced, I wonder if Lennon would have come on again.

Sven says Crouch and Gerrard won't play any part in the Sweden game. Well, we know what happened there.

Oh come on. Sven didn't have a choice about bringing on Crouch, Owen would certainly have played 90 minutes otherwise, and the Gerrard substitution was a good one. I don't give a shit if Sven changes whatever tactics he tells the media, so long as they work. And they almost did........

But not playing Carrick was a crime.

whilst i do think walcott is a cracking player, if he was THAT good (like you say/hope/pray/clutch at) then wenger would've played him at some point in the season or thrown him on with ten minutes to go in paris.

he'll be forced to play him now that and i think he'll surprise a few of the doubters as i really rate walcott.

I hope so dude, but it's a phenominal amount of pressure to put on a kid who's never played in the Premiership.  Even if he is *THAT* good he'll need to have balls of steel if he's gonna raise his game against the big teams.

Gutted for Owen - just gutted

5 months out- and then the rest,  means he'll have played one Premiership game by the time 2006 closes - and he's now 26, he cant heal like he did

Damn shame - cos he's twice the goal scorer Rooney is

All the best Owen - and i'd really hoped he'd return to Liverpool soon

....as for Walcott.... rofl

Of course he's that good confused

Wenger couldn't use him in Paris because he let Sven take him to Portugal with the rest of the squad for training in how not to deal with set pieces and give the ball away.

I've seen Walcott in the flesh for the Arsenal reserves twice. Whilst it may only be the reserves, the boy is quite clearly cut from a different cloth. Or for those from north of Watford, he's different gravy. rofl

I remember seeing Fabregas for the first time, and I got a similar feeling when I saw Walcott. He's a little bit special. yes

Personaly the mistake in the squad for me is Jenas. I'd have dumped him and brought in Bent, Defoe or Ashton.

Well.... Yes, but only because he's part of the Van Nistelroy school of attack. He's a predator. There is nothing wrong with that, but the reason that Rooney is one of the best players in the world right now isn't because he's scoring goals.
