well my obvious choice for best live band ever would be Led Zeppelin. id have to choose a zep album for this . i'd go for How the west was won, although it's a postume album...
most of the power a band is given by its live performances...
.. another almost surprisingly great album (just re-listened to it today) . one of the best ever is Pulse by Pink Floyd////

I can't believe that many people here chose "Live" instead of "If You Want Blood".

1. AC/DC - If You Want Blood

I'm gonna say Kiss Alive! and Live Era...but I haven't heard too many other live albums.  I like Bryan Adams MTV Unplugged as well.

Metallica - S&M - okay the tracklist is lousy (too much from Load and Reload rant) but songs like Master of Puppets sound so much better with the orchestra!
GNR live era - i will go on record as saying the live versions of Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City are as good and maybe better than the studio cuts - the guitar tone is much better, its so much more raw and powerful, great stuff

Hate to break it to ya' guys but Guns N' Roses Live Era isn't that great. It's average, but it just isn't too special.

I would say Nirvana: Unplugged in New York is probably the best but I haven't listened to too many live albums.

I am surprised more people havnm't mentioned S&M by Metallica. I thought it was a great concpet, didn't work with all of their songs but some turned out fucking awesome. Another favorite is a fistful of alice by alice cooper recorded down at sammy hagars cabo wabo (Slash plays on some tracks including a kick ass solo on only women bleed) and a classic Cheap Trick Live at Budokan.

Official releases please. ( That means no Bootlegs)
Mine...

Pantera - 101 Proof

Chris Misfit told me to buy this the first time i met him when he came to stay with me in Norwich. Ach The Memories.  Cry
Its awesome for anyone that hasnt heard it!

And as far as im aware it was recorded at one show, as opposed to 3-4 shows with fake crowd noise. Will be willingly proved wrong on that last point though...its just my understanding.
