I think Use Your Illusions is the greatest album of all time...just the way it is.  Think about it, it really is just one double album released as 2 discs.

If you're not a rock star - at least act like one

« Reply #42 on: January 13, 2004, 02:36:02 AM »

I think that if they put hust the best songs, they could have time to work in the other songs (I agree that all UYI songs are great) and make them, a classic too. In IYU there's a lot of songs with amazing potential that could be realy better (Pefect Crime, Locomotive, Shotgun Blues, Breakdown (I love this one), Dust N' Bones...). So, this would be my tracklist:

01. You Could be Mine
02. Civil War
03. Pretty Tied Up
04. Don't Cry
05. The Garden
06. Dead Horse
07. Don't Damm Me
08. November Rain
09. Estranged
10. Perfect Crime ('cause if they've worked in less songs at that time, this song would be a TOP 5 all time in GN'R songs)

The covers would be on TSI.

Perfect Crime is perfect. Don't mess with it.

yes way better, but they r the way they r and we can't change it. Here's my list

1) Civil War
2) Dust N' Bones
3) Live and Let Die
4) 14 Years
5) Knockin on Heaven's Door
6) Bad Obsession
7) Shotgun Blues
Cool Pretty Tied Up
9) November Rain
10) Perfect Crime
11) Don't Cry
12) Estranged
13) The Garden
14) Locomotive
15) Coma
i know it was that if the album was shorter with the best songs, but seeing as their are 30 in the 2 albums i took my fav 15 from both.

The main reason I'm such a huge GN'R fan is because I love all their songs. They were the first band I got into where I loved EVERY SINGLE SONG they released.
Unlike some other bands that have one or two good songs and the rest fillers.

My only complaint about UYI might be is that they are a little overproduced, but otherwise I hold them in regard as THE best rock albums ever recorded.
You can't go past Slash's brilliant guitar work, Axl's amazingly emotional vocals and lyrics, Matt's great drum work, Izzy's great songwriting and Duff's cool bass lines, that all add up to two kick ass albums! beer

If the band had released that only Axl/ballad fans would have liked it. i mean not one Izzy sung song. Are you mad??

Coma is a pile of shit compared to DTJ
Breakdown is also fairely disposable. (the band obviously felt so as those 2 where rarely performed live yet dtj was performed every night)

If you replaced them 2 with  DTJ and 14 Years and maybe one more song i would agree with you.
As long as the remainder are released as b-sides

Hey guy, I love Perfect Crime too, but I think this song got a potential to be a single if they worked a little bit more on it.

I'm the same, but the two bands I love every single song of are GN'R & Metallica.
I was Bon Jovi fan up until Keep The Faith, which I still think is BJ's best album.

I'm just curious, because I think Perfect Crime is great as it is, what do you think could be improved in the song?

dtj better than coma or breakdown?

are u insane?

it was played on the tour for two reasons,

1. so axl could do his famous rants

2. cause it had a nice 4 or 5 minute break for axl to go backstage, rest, get something to drink, relax and change clothes

think about it, gnr made 3 full length cds, 3 of the greatest cds of all time

see now why i dont doubt axl and C.D.?

Don't forget LIES, i adore that album, every track on there is fanastic.

If axl played breakdown he would be sititing down at a piano, plus during dtj he runs like a maniac

I don't understand why people automatically consider Breakdown, Coma, Estranged genius just because there long, complex, piano laden and have emotional lyrics.

It's actually a lot harder to write quality RaR. Simple stuff because it's already been done.

Coma is my 2nd worst gnr song after my world, it is too long for a start and too heavy metal (which I detest)

We're all about opinions here, but please don't spout nonsense...Coma...''heavy metal'', Slayer are heavy metal, if you think Coma sounds like Slayer....well nervous

Coma is not my favourite song but it is a very good song with some amazing lyrics, it takes some time to get used to for sure, you just need a little patience with it....

what the hell are gnr then? hall and oates?

gnr are punk pop metal rock all kinds of groovy little titles

Coma is in my top 10 gnr songs ever

coma is a song that if u have ever went thru tramatic, near death walkin thru hell and back type shit u will love it greater than any song

same with oh my god etc

some gnr songs are harder to get cause u have to be able to relate and most people fortunatley havent had to deal with those kinds of evil horrible issues

i have dealt with those issues so maybe thats why i and a lot of others on here relate so personally to it

it did when uyi 1 survivor!

Guns N' Roses are a Hard Rock band, or a RaR band. With other influences like punk and elton john

I may be getting to technical but there style is bluesbased, most metal is derived from modes

Izzy and Slash where into the stones and aerosmith, there not metal. Axls into acdc, thin lizzy, elton john and queen.Duff-punk.

yes but axl was apart of that and i dont think axl will let it suck just like i dont think VR's cd will suck
any full on effort by any member of gnr will kick ass cause they havent disappointed yet

well except solo discs but im sure those werent meant to be blockbusters just solo shit

axl has a great vision

estranged, coma, i mean these arent ordinary songs

a man that has the vision to write epics to me is more than a great musician

C.D. will be 5 times greater than any gnr cd

any bets?

ill bet 5 on it

i have confidence in axl
