I'm a llama!

I'm late, but I just saw Hear n' Aid's video for the song Stars, the metal epic that was made to save Africa in the 80's or something. If anyone ever doubts the vocal prowess of the average metal vocalist, hearing the "WE'RE STAAAARS" chorus from 40+ metalheads should kill this doubt. No one there sounds too weak to sing. They all hit the high chorus note. This song also has about 10 guitar solos in the middle, including some by Yngwie Malmsteen.

Trust me, this is simply one of metal's finest moments (even VH1 listed it as #1!). It's 100000x better than the terrible Live Aid song We Are The World. Pop music could never do anything like this.

Heh, that was cool! Hadn't seen it before. The soloing was a bit much though... I was surprised at how similar all the singers sounded. That's the 80s for ya, I guess.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll have to check it out again later when I have the time, but they just can't all sound that much alike, can they?

They sound normal to me. Geoff Tate his his distinct sound in his voice, Halford sounds like Halford, Dio sounds great, and so on. Their voices were similar because that's how 80's heavy metal singers sang.  ok

EDIT: Interestingly, I listened again, and DuBrow does sound a lot like Dio in the first part!  Shocked I need to listen to Quiet Riot a bit more. Metal-Archives has all the lead singers listed, so here you all go. Overall, they have distinct voices, but Dio and DuBrow DO sound similar in the song.

Dio (guess Wink)
Dave Meniketti (Y&T)
Halford (Judas Priest)
DuBrow (Quiet Riot)
Eric Bloom (Blue Oyster Cult)
Paul Shortino (Quiet Riot and Rough Cutt)
Geoff Tate (Queensryche)
Don Dokken (guess Wink)

By the way, the song came out in 1986, so Somewhere In Time era Maiden is correct.

I think I can distinguish Halford, Tate and Dios voice as for the others they sound alike, perhaps cause Im not into their bands. But the song was great indeed.
I knew I've seen those outfits in SIT era  hihi
