Well, in his eyes, he's certainly proven that any one playing anything is expendible.

maybe if tommy left it could open a door for bucket to return to the band ( as a guitarist , not bassist .. lol) since tommy seems to be the most vocal about not liking buckethead.

Didn't he say something like "he left, he doesn't want to be with us!"?
I guess he was just bitter about BHs leaving the band.

Soul Asylum Tour Dates:
Mar 17 2006 7:30A? Kegs & Eggs at Lulu's Washington, DC
Mar 17 2006 8:00P 9:30 Club Washington, DC
Apr 12 2006 8:00P Fine Line Music Cafe Minneapolis, MN
Apr 14 2006 8:15P Liacouras Center? Philadelphia, PA
Jul 1 2006 8:30P Oneida Bingo & Casino Oneida, WI
Jul 2 2006 7:00P Summerfest Milwaukee, WI
Jul 3 2006 7:00P Taste of Minnesota St. Paul, MN
Jul 8 2006 7:00P Basilica of St. John's Rochester, MN

The latest Soul Asylum dates would seem to suggest that Soul Asylum is trying to accomodate Tommy's GNR commitments. Will Tommy try to balance two bands? Is he merely fufilling a contractual commitment to GNR, then back to Soul Asylum? If he was going to abandon Soul Asylum, I don't think he would do these dates. Not to Say Tommy has committed to them, but the choice of dates appears as if they are working around the GNR calendar.

Stinson is with GN'R

He will only do Soul Asylum if his schedule allows him to

Tommy does need to work to put bread on the table.?

Yes and no.? Tommy is paid a six-figure yearly salary for GnR work, whether or not they tour.? He will make substantially more when GnR tours.? I'm sure the soul asylum gigs will pay him next to nothing.? (In other words, he wouldn't be doing those gigs for financial reasons.)

Are you sure that Tommy is STILL being paid? If so, it most certainly is out of Axl's own pocket not GNR. Ever sense the label pulled the album and Sanctuary bought the publishing rights, GNR hasn't earned a dime. I would've guessed that Tommy is no longer being paid.

Stinson very well be in GNR  . . . for now . . .  but there is no promise that GNR will tour or release an album beyond these European dates. Maybe GNR needs to work to pay for more production time or back pay to the band members?

I would be careful making sweeping statements about the payrolls.

Who the hell actually knows, but it's at least plausible that the label has loosened the purse strings IF Axl is near to delivering a finished album and considering some of the strong demand being shown for the Europe dates, the RS review, the whole Axl-Scott feud, the continued success of Greatest Hits on the charts, etc... I find it hard to believe that the label is going to just sit there and let the whole thing go into the shitter because they don't want to pay the bassist.

As far as Tommy goes... I can't imagine him missing out on the whole Chinese Democracy experience IF Axl wants him there (which I assume he very much does)... SA is a nice little band... but get real. If Stinson passes this up he'll go down in infamy with other brain surgeons like Tracii Guns and Rob Gardner. hihi

I mean, come on...Tommy to self(internal dialogue), "Which band would I rather be in, SA or GNR?"

give me a break...Tommy is full on GNR, although, I miss Duff's bass almost as much as Slash's ax. Know what I mean? I have yet to be blown away be Tommy's bass playing. Maybe his work on CD will be amazing. I sure hope so...

Tommy's invested too much into this project to up and leave at this time. Soul Asylum will find another bassist. No way Tommy will tour with both bands all summer...

Yes and no.  Tommy is paid a six-figure yearly salary for GnR work, whether or not they tour.  He will make substantially more when GnR tours.  I'm sure the soul asylum gigs will pay him next to nothing.  (In other words, he wouldn't be doing those gigs for financial reasons.)

I don't think the label was ever paying the bandmembers -- that came out of GnR management (and still does, I believe).  GnR management (and the corporate entity that is GnR) continues to earn publishing royalties -- the deal with Sanctuary wasn't like a Bowie bond deal, where Bowie was advanced ~$50M and collateralized the repayments with assigning the royalties over to the bondholders.  So GnR, the entity, continues to earn money as does Axl, and out of those monies, bandmembers are paid.
