all advice very much welcome, good point made by D, i'm trying to find a good songwriting partner to help me get my ideas out,
I should probably have revised my question, i meant would you prefer everybody in the bands writes something or leave it up to 1 or 2 guys? to me it's a band when everybody is saying something not just 1 or 2 people!

Sometimes its ok if people write their own part for their instrument but sometimes as a songwriter u have a vision and an idea of what direction a song should go and how it should sound etc.

If u got 5 guys with 5 totally different visions, its gonna be impossible to finish anything.

If someone has a better idea than me, we will go with that idea but u have to convince me why your idea is better than mine and that isnt always easy.

In my 10 plus years of songwriting, I have found only one guy I can write with and that is it. Im also able to write lyrics with my girlfriend.

But as far as melodies and song structure, I usually have the ultimate say.

you didn't quite get me, what i meant was as a band do you leave 1 guy 2 write all the songs, like noel gallagher for oasis or do you prefer when everyone in the band writes songs for example the new oasis album has songs from noel, liam, gem n andy?

Ok I gotcha.

I guess it just depends.

I love Prince cause he writes every song by himself.

However RHCP's write every song as a collective band.

I guess the final product is what matters, Even though one of my fav bands Bon Jovi has done it a lot, Im not a big fan when someone NOT in the band collaborates on a song.

Ive always generally perferred for a singer to write his own lyrics though.

If a guy is singing about the bass players problems it just doesnt seem as genuine.

I mean imagine if u found out Axl didnt write any lyrics, it would fuck it up big time for me.

see your point, but on the other hand i write a lot of stuff, and i need a good singer to ram home the importance of the song
