Jeeeesus, have you seen what it's got written next to the GnR listing on the arena's website (
www.metroradioarena.com
):
The following items are not allowed into the venue; Cameras ( of any kind ) Audio and video recording devices Weapons Bottles ( of any kind ) Cans Containers ( of any kind ) fireworks Alcohol Chains ( of any kind ) Laser pens Banners chains spiked bracelets
You know half the lasses there will have those bracelets on. I'd better leave the chainsaw at home though

Yeah, they're always the same with the big gigs there. Not too vigilant on the searching though, so if you stick with a big group, you should get through ok, I've not been searched once there yet, despite the huge security team.
I remember going to see a gig back in 1998 in Manchester where they actually made you hand over your studded belts, wallet chains, etc. Bet it was fun trying to identify which was yours on the way out...

Nah, I haven't had mine yet either. Bearing in mind I ordered my Download ticket from Ticketbastardmaster in March and didn't get it until 3 days before going to the festival in June, I wouldn't worry too much as yet.

Yeah, sure, we'll be going down quite early in the day so depending on the time we could maybe all have a get together in a pub, have some pub grub and a quick beer?

I bought tickets for this gig after seeing them in Dublin on the June 9th. I went with fairly low expectations and was blown away by the performance - absolutely stunning (a total contrast to 92 when I saw them in Gateshead and was bored rigid). Came home determined to see them again this summer and booked tickets the very next morning. Can't wait.

I suggest, for pre gig meet up....the Gotham Town pub just opposite the train station...it's easy to find, the food is nice if anyone's hungry and also, when I saw Velvet Revolver in Newcastle, we went there the morning after and the barmaid said Slash n Duff had been in and out all the previous day as it's pretty much the nearest decent pub to the arena....with that logic in mind, maybe we'll see Bumblefoot propping up the bar or something

OK managed to pick up ticket from box office. Nice picture ones not the boring hammersmith kind (mines currently being used as a book mark) as doors open at 5.45 what time is everyone going down to the arena? I'm determined to get as near to the front as I can after being just about in the car park at hammersmith.

It is easy to get down the front at Newcastle Arena. There's a part on the left where you come out of the toilets and you're about 20 feet from the stage.
Incidentally, doors at 1745? Why so early I wonder?

Cheapest train I could get from Leeds doesn't get me there until 1630, 75 mins before doors open.
Not much time to spare, but I fancy going for a beer in Carpe Diem if anyone fancies it? It's opposite the train station and is a top little bar that looks somewhat goth but gets all sorts of people in.
PM me if you wanna meet up for a jar around half 4, 5 ish.

I fancy it, but is that not Gotham Town? I'm sure that's the place I'm thinking of...come out of the train station and look left and it looks really goth? I haven't been for a while though, maybe it's changed its name.
Those of us who could get there earlier could maybe have a few drinks prior to you getting there, have a quick bevvy with you then go en masse down to the arena, maybe?

Hey everyone - I'll be going 2 Newcastle - there's 8 of us going. The best place to go for a drink is Trillian's which is not 2 far from the Arena. It's a really good rock pub - anyone familiar with it?

Yeah, I know Trillians. We were thinking of going there post-gig if it's still open. I think that it might be best to go to this Gotham Town beforehand though, purely cos it's right out the front of the train station and isn't too bad a place - a few mins from the Arena and everyone should be able to find it. Trillians is a bit tucked away for people who aren't familiar with the toon. Plus, we can get some food inside us before heading off to the gig if we go there.
Trillians is decent though, so we'll try head down there afterwards, but you'll definitely find me in Gotham Town prior to the whole shebang

Hey everyone - I'll be going 2 Newcastle - there's 8 of us going. The best place to go for a drink is Trillian's which is not 2 far from the Arena. It's a really good rock pub - anyone familiar with it?
Trillians is decent though, so we'll try head down there afterwards, but you'll definitely find me in Gotham Town prior to the whole shebang
Sorry mate, Trillians closes at 11pm on a Wednesday. V highly recommended to go to before the gig though!

Canny like!
See you in Gotham for a swift pint then. I'll be the tall fella who looks like Vernon Kay (no really)
Cool
I'll be hard to miss....I'm a big goth looking girl with noticeable wrist tattoo. Should be enough to go on! Most likely to be sporting GnR tshirt too.

Aye, had a feeling that might be the case. Oh well, I'm happy enough with the rock night after at the arena.

Looks like this might be on its way for a sell out! My mate has tried getting a standing ticket from the ticketmaster website but its telling him none are available (seating only).

I'm praying Iz will be there. When you've waited the best part of twenty years to see your hero and it gets this close... jesus. I remember hoping that he would join Velvet Revolver when I saw them in Manchester two years ago, he didn't but he did about four shows later...
The shows seems to be pretty close to selling out. Seating tickets are available through ticketmaster.co.uk (but not standing). Standing are available via seetickets.com (but not seating).

Hey, I booked a few tickets ubt some friends have been unable to make it up to Newcastle so I have 3 spare which are seated in block 113 Row C and I could let them go for ?20 each if anyone wants which is about half price. If you do just ring on either 0191 488 3012 or 07968 565 803 and I'll try and sort something out. Thanks. P

Got into work this morning feeling a bit the worse for wear. What happened to the encore and no Madagascer (don't think thats spelt right!!). Seems the same old story one prat ruined it for everyone else. Nevermind thats my rant, great show anyway got right to the front and squirted with water by axl (much needed). What did everyone else think of the show??

I thought it was a brilliant gig, although I have to admit I was getting a little impatient by 10pm and they still hadn't come on. But I thought it was fantastic, Sweet Child O' Mine in particular I thought was good, the only problem was during some of the later songs we had trouble hearing Axl's voice because we were stood exactly half way back and the acoustics weren't particularly good. It's a shame there was no encore, I was looking forward to hearing Paradise City, but it was still excellent.

Someone in the crowd threw something at Axl, i couldn't see what it was but thats why he left the stage half way through night train. I assume thats why we got no encore, a view seemingley shared by the writer in the Evening Chronicle yesterday.

What was the reaction of the audience. Were they pissed off? Did you get any explanation why he went?

Before they came back out a message was broadcast that anybody throwing things would be dealt with by the security people. I don't think many people realized that they had missed out. Walking back to my car i overheard people saying it was strange there was no paradise city but i don't think they knew this is usually saved for the encore.

Jesus did you see that review in the chronicle? One of the worst reviews I've read! "Axl being the only member of the original band remaining" - no mention of Izzy!
"The band succeeded in dispersing their newer material from the as yet unreleased album, Chinese Democracy, among their vintage hits without too much complaint."
? Yeah, all of one song!
Anyway, anyone who wants to read the full article:

I don't know if anyone actually made it, but sorry about not being at Gotham Town, if you did. We got delayed and by the time we got to Newcastle, we just had time to check into hotel and head down to the arena.
By the way, for anyone who's gonna go to any future gigs there, stay at Jury's Inn, it's staggering distance away from the arena and pretty nice too!
