Forget who you like and who you respect.

Forget how much money bands make.

Alot of bands played their hearts out at Reading and Leeds festival . . Pearl Jam were awesome, Arctic monkeys were probally the most anticpated.

I hear alot of people tell me Hip Hop is the biggest music market in the world. But its always Rock related band that seem to bring out the crowds.

I recently heard that U2 and Coldplay are the most known bands amongst 12-30 year olds

There are also bands like the Arctic Monkeys who are huge in the Uk and i hear doing pretty well in the states. Not saying they are the biggest yet . . But they seem to be on their way.

Maybe Radiohead or Maybe Chilli Peppers.

Who do you think is currently the biggest act in the world

for sure rolling stones and u2 are the only ones who can sell out stadium after stadium.  if AC/DC started touring again maybe they could too.  hopefully GNR will too once the public sees more of them.  i for sure know a reunited GNR with a new album would sell out every single friggin stadium in the world, i think they would  be the biggest.  never know it might happen one day  hihi

U2 seemed to have sustained solid popularity through the years. They're as big today as in their heyday. They stay relevant without changing origin or quality, which seems to be a major part of the success.

So where do the new crop of bands fit in.

The likes of:

Fallout boy
Arctic Monkeys
Strokes
The Killers etc

they all seem to be getting pretty big fast. Obviously not to the same extent as the others but just wondering whaere the new crop stand.

I mean the Killers have to be one of the biggest around now. Don't they?

Couldn't agree more, I hate it when people do the horns and think they like rock because they listen to these bands.  These bands don't have attitude, they're like a bunch of trendy pussies.

As to who's the best, it's impossible for me to say!  I change my opinion on who's best daily.  Mastodon are doing it for me right now.  At least they're musically interesting and challenging like even The Beatles were at one time!  RHCP and the Stones on the other hand are far from interesting and challanging, once maybe they were but not now.

In that case based on all the greatest hits CD's they have produced over the last decade or so Kiss and Aerosmith are co-winners by a landslide.

I'd prefer to listen to the Arctic Monkeys and the Killers and prefer to see them live. I think that goes for the majority of under 30's in the UK

I have to say, although I can't stand them, U2.

They are hugely popular here in Australia and their shows sold out in minutes.

RHCP aren't far off the mark down here either.

Based on a world-wide success...

The biggest acts are U2, the Stones, The Boss and Madonna...wherever they go, tickets are gone within minutes.

The other bands; RHCP, Radiohead, Coldplay, BJ, Pearl Jam...are extremely popular as well, but not in the same league as the above mentioned.

i think that michael jackson would also be among the biggest acts,, but he don't tour anymore i guess but if he did he would prolly sell some tickets too

It's U2 without a doubt. they still have number one albums and singles and sell out arenas and stadiums all around the world.  they are bigger than the Rolling Stones at this point because they are relevant in todays' music scene. I love the Stones but they have no impact on the young generation anymore. U2 still does. People will argue that the Stones have a more successful tour than U2 but that's misleading. U2 were the number one requested ticket via ticketmaster in 2005. Yes more requested than the Stones who were 3rd I believe. New England patriots were second if anyone cares. As for other bands like RHCP, Greenday, Pearl Jam, or whoever else, when they come to town it's simply a  big concert. When U2 comes to town they take over the entire city. It's nuts.  The anticipation and hype for a U2 concert is unparralelled. I've seen it in New York, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Portland and I'm telling you the flat out truth nothing comes close. They are without a doubt the biggest band in the world.

At the moment it would be:

U2
The Rolling Stones
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Billy Joel
Coldplay

That's just from memory. I'm pretty sure it's those groups/artists that are in the biggest demand at the moment
