I agree with Marion Raven. Also glad to see her known in here. I like Melissa Auf der Maur's solo stuff. Hayley Williams (Paramore) does have an appealing rock voice -- and for the record, she's 19 now. And still just as hot hihi

It begins and ends with Neko Case for me.  Check any of her solo work or in The New Pornographers.

Yeah, Marion has a great voice, Skin from Skunk Anansie. As artist I'd say Linda Perry which has a strong voice too peace

A couple that haven't been mentioned; Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris. Two different styles, but both are excellent vocalist. Emmylou's  work with Graham Parsons is pure nirvana.

Cristina Scabbia, yes ... I'm sorry I forgot her. For female metal singers, I'd throw in Nienke de Jong from Autumn. Also, Liv Kristine formerly from Theatre of Tragedy and now with Leaves' Eyes, which isn't to discredit Theatre's new singer Nell Sigland because I think "Storm" is one of their strongest albums. As for Nightwish, I prefer their new singer Anette Olzon and the direction they've been able to go in with her vocals.

Natalie Merchant's sound is what defined 10000 Maniacs IMO. Love her stuff. Too, Sara Mclacllin is a very talented singer/songwriter. Another, that I can't remember her name, is the chick that sang for The Cranberries.

I don't normally like female singers, but today I heard Black Widdow on the radio and it reminded me that I really like Stevie's voice!

Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley and numerous child star movie appearance fame.  She's fucking amazing and her solo album was one of my favorite albums released in 2006.  Her voice just melts in your ear.
