I haven't seen any mention lately of them working on new material.  I hope they are, I really enjoyed their last CD.

Jerry's been non commital as to new recording plans, very much a "We'll see", "Maybe", "Not sure" line of answer..

That's surprising.  I'm somewhat new to AIC, but they seem to have gotten past all the "it's not Layne."  And the new album did really well, you'd think he'd want to make another.

ALICE IN CHAINS Is Working On New Music, Says HEART's ANN WILSON - July 20, 2011

Seattle grunge legends ALICE IN CHAINS have commenced work on the follow-up to 2009's gold-certified album "Black Gives Way To Blue" (Virgin/EMI), according to longtime friend Ann Wilson of HEART.

In a conversation yesterday with Ultimate Classic Rock, Wilson mentioned that she had visited ALICE IN CHAINS this weekend at the recording studio where they're working on their new album, which currently does not have a title and is reportedly set for release in early 2012.

It is good news. Smiley  I hope they do some more touring as well, I wasn't able to see them the last time they came through my city.  From what I've seen on YouTube, they look like a good band to see live.

They're an excellent band to see live.  Worth the money.  Staley may not be there, but DuVall does very well.

awesome news about the new music. i hope they expand on things further and evolve into some great new tunes, and not try to "remake" the older sound.

Mike Inez was interviewed this past Monday on KNAC.  He says regarding a new album from Alice In Chains:

"I'm sure a new Alice record will be in the offing sometime in the future...I don't know when.  We're working on some new stuff -- we'll see what ends up on the record."

So the new album is being produced by Nick Raskulinecz -- it looks like it will be out in 2012.  Yes! yes

You mentioned earlier that you?ve just finished the new Evanescence record too, so what other projects have you got coming up as well?

Nick Raskulinecz: Yes, I just spent six months on the new Evanescence record which turned out amazing. I am currently going into the studio with a new band for Atlantic. And I have also got Alice In Chains doing preproduction in Los Angeles for the rest of the year and we?ll be gearing up to make a new Alice In Chains record. And after I?ve done the Rush record, hopefully I?ll begin work on another new Deftones record too.

No Set Timeline For New ALICE IN CHAINS Album - December 2011

According to The Pulse Of Radio, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell participated recently in a chat at ESPN.com, where he was asked about the status of a follow-up to the band's 2009 comeback album, "Black Gives Way To Blue". Cantrell replied that a new disc will come out "whenever we're done," adding, "We're never really forced to make music. If it doesn't happen, then it doesn't. We've been writing a lot. I also had shoulder surgery earlier this year. I'm at the tail end of rehabbing that. That put us back a little bit. But we have some stuff . . . Hopefully we'll have it out next year. We'll put it out when we feel that it's worth putting out."

ALICE IN CHAINS Guitarist Talks Next Album In New Interview - Jan. 11, 2012

ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Rolling Stone magazine at last month's Dimebash tribute in Los Angeles, the annual show in honor late guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, that the band is working on the follow-up to 2009's gold-certified "Black Gives Way To Blue", which debuted in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 and scored multiple Grammy nominations.

"We started writing [in 2010]," Cantrell said. "[Then] I had shoulder surgery. I had to get some bone spurs and torn cartilage taken care of, so that put me back a little bit. But we've been writing through the whole process."

Following its self-titled record in 1995, the once-mighty Seattle-based act went into a long period of inactivity, partially due to the drug problems of singer Layne Staley. Staley died in 2002, but it was another four years until the three remaining members of the band, Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney, first regrouped for a benefit show and then officially returned with new frontman William DuVall.

ALICE IN CHAINS recruited pop legend Elton John to contribute piano to "Black Gives Way To Blue"'s title track, which is written in tribute to Staley.

"That's just the universe lining up right. I had nothing to do with that other than asking," Cantrell told Rolling Stone. "What he is, beyond anything else, is a fucking amazing musician. And he's the guy who inspired me to start playing music, so to have him play on one of our records ? especially such a meaningful record, where we're restarting our musical careers and saying goodbye and honoring our buddy ? it's a tremendous thing."

ALICE IN CHAINS released "Black Gives Way To Blue" after a 14-year hiatus between full-length albums.

Cantrell said about that period, "It kind of grew into something a lot larger than we anticipated . . . To recreate ourselves without losing our identity and having the fans support us through that and have the quality of music come out like it did. Transitioning from the old lineup of the band and moving on, it was a lot. It's a career worth of changes in six, seven years. It's nice to have a second life and we're in the midst of that."

Professionally filmed video footage of ALICE IN CHAINS' entire November 12, 2011 concert at the Maquinaria Festival in Santiago, Chile can be seen below.

"To recreate ourselves without losing our identity"

The quote above is so right on the money, Cantrell nailed their return to prominence perfectly.

ALICE IN CHAINS, DUFF MCKAGAN + MORE TO PERFORM AT MUSICARES EVENT HONORING JERRY CANTRELL

Alice in Chains will take the stage for the first time in 2012 at the upcoming MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert in Los Angeles. The event will honor AIC singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell, and will also feature performances from Duff McKagan, Billy Idol, Mark Lanegan and more.

Alice in Chains have been working on their second album since bringing vocalist William DuVall into the fold, but will take a break from the sessions for an upcoming event honoring their co-founder and primary songwriter, Jerry Cantrell.

Cantrell is set to be honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan award, in recognition of his contributions to the MusiCares MAP fund ? which provides recovery resources to musicians that struggle with addiction. The cause is undoubtedly close to Cantrell?s heart ? the band not only lost frontman Layne Staley to addiction in 2002, but former bassist Mike Starr in 2011.

MusiCares just announced the official lineup for their May 31 charity event, which, in addition to Alice in Chains, will feature performances from Duff McKagan, Billy Idol, Heart and Screaming Trees / Queens of the Stone Age singer-guitarist Mark Lanegan, among others.

The event takes place at Los Angeles? Club Nokia and has general admission balcony tickets available for $55, while VIP floor seats will fetch $1,250 a pop. All proceeds from the benefit dinner and concert will go to the MusiCares MAP fund.

Jerry Cantrell on New Alice in Chains Record: 'Time to Get to Work'

MAY 10, 2012

"It?s time to get to work and the material is really interesting, the body of work that we?ve done," Cantrell says. "It?ll be as different as any one of our records is to any other, and it?ll also be just as recognizable. It?s an Alice record, for sure."

"We started the record like two weeks before," he says.

Cantrell isn't sure when the record will be out, but he's hoping either later this year or early next year at the latest.
