i still say say JackViper and Vains of Jenna. they are like modern-day incarnations of GN'R. Sleaze rock is gettin' huge in the UK.
heres a clip of the Jackviper song "Walk the line"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaWdfGkI4tw

*at 1:02, you can see the base player wearing the GN'R Whiskey shirt.

I don't know that there's a true "opener" in this pairing.  But a dual-headliner (GNR Metallica, for example) would be killer!

The were scheduled to open for The Rolling Stones last summer, until Keith fell from a tree....

I don't think the GNR crowd is ready for Tomahawk. Oh man, I can't even imagine what the reaction would be. There would be a riot. No question. hihi

Tomahawk.

Tomahawk would be incredible. ?Anything with Mike Patton in it would be incredible. ?I dont see it happening because Patton seems to hate Axl and he definitely isnt Axl's type of guy. ?Patton never keeps his mouth shut, for being somewhat reclusive he does badmouth a lot of people. ?His interview where he mentions Wolfmother is hilarious and I just dont think Patton would like what Axl's doing (based on Pattons musical taste). ?Also I love Axl, but I think theres a chance Patton might steal the show, either by working the fans into a riot or by putting on an incredible show.  If youve never seen Tomahawk perform, go if you ever get a chance or go to youtube and youll see why this wont work.

Axl isnt opening for anyone except The Rolling Stones and maybe Led Zeppelin reunion if any of those rumors are true. ?So while Jesus was a bit of an overstatement, it wasnt by much. ? Even if they did open for either of these goliaths i think they'd only do it for 1 or 2 shows and come out during the main acts show and play a song with them.

As for Manson I would like that too. ?Marilyn Manson the band has become a little bit underrated and they have enough well known songs that GNR fans would be entertained for 30-45 minutes. ?Any conflict with the bands I see being remedied by a certain respect shown between the two. ?Manson's a well known name, ?I dont see it happening but it would be a strong choice.

As for NIN- no way. ?Absolutely 0.0% chance. ?Two distinct personalities, two high cost productions, two giant ego's, two different audiences (sure theres overlap, but Axl will appeal to a lot of older people 35+ and NIN will appeal to a lot of teenagers still). ?There isnt much benefit to NIN either since most of their shows sell out. ?It would have to be a big stadium tour or extra large amplitheaters, and those arent really great for fans. ?I would rather go see NIN and see GNR on another night. ?That way one both bands can do their tour, with everything the way they want, they can do as many encores they want etc...

There are a lot of good opening band possibilities out there. ?I have hated most of Axl's choices. ?I personally thought Eagles of Death Metal were the best choice so far. ?He should get a band or a person who can appeal to lots of people and get a crowd worked up. ?(apparently EODM didnt do that, i thought they would). ?

I personally would like to see a band like Drive by Truckers. ?Southern rock, highly intelligent, great guitar players and they are a band that may not play the exact same style as GNR, but they are great performers who can hold a crowds attention and would bring very little baggage.

There would be no, I repeat, no chance Tomahawk would steal the show in front of a GNR crowd. I love them, and I love Patton, but they would seriously be booed out of the arena, things would be thrown at them, and they wouldn't even finish their set. It would never work.

Drive By Truckers would be killer, though.

Buck Cherry and Jet.  If all 3 of those bands played it'd be a hell of a rock show.
