Bank robbers shootin up North Hollywood yeah
Seems like a rerun livin on this town
I go see a movie, try and entertain me
It don't half compare to the shit
that's goin down around here
--

The funny way he sings it, always cracks me up, especially when I have to travel to N. Hollywood.

But, today (or tomorrow depending where you live) is the 10 year anniversary of the infamous bank robbery shootout in N  Hollywood.

On the morning of February 28, 1997, when more than 1,100 bullets were fired from the AK-47s of Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Matasareanu after the heavily armed and armored robbers turned the area around their botched heist at the Bank of America on Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Vanowen Street into a war zone and one of the most violent and terrifying shootouts with police in history.

A low-res movie of the shootout: http://www.student.oulu.fi/~hmikkola/ba_shootout_43.mov

I can see why Izzy compared it to a movie  hihi

LAD has more of a hard rock sound, but I love listening to 117 degrees too, especially when I'm driving.  'Orange sky out west...'

"117 degrees" is my favorite Izzy album..

Here's what he said about "Old Hat":

"Old Hat": That's a piss-take, kind of riffing on some stupid, clich?d stuff. The cocaine line is a reference to the old rock star bullshit, and how you just get over it. While we were tracking the song, the North Hollywood bank robbery was happening. And I was thinking how even stuff like that, you see it so much on TV that it becomes old news. You just kind of bet on the car chases. You become cold.

For the remaining songs see http://www.chopaway.com/98gpk.htm

About the robbery, I saw this movie last year which is about it, pretty cool..:

As much as 117* is a fan favorite, that has to be my least favorite Izzy solo album. I like it and all, but Ride On,  River and Like a Dog kick the shit out of it.

Ride On doesn't get the praise it deserves. That album is cool as fuck.
