Ok, first of all, why would I give a shit about VR releasing music or not? Most artists release  rushed shit albums all the time, I couldn't be more happy Axl is taking his time with his.

In 2004 VR was fun, the album was ok, the live shows were fun.

In 2006, GN'R was back. I realized, VR was just a substitute.

I tried to listen to Contraband again recently, and I just found out boring and not that great.....



When I see people coming to a Guns N' Roses message board to talk shit about Guns N' Roses, I might have problems with that because I can't relate to what the fuck they're doing.

Now, you might say I'm doing the same thing.

But you're wrong, I didn't go to a VR forum, I'm still posting on a GN'R forum. Everything here is supposed to be from the perspective of a GN'R fan.

I don't mean a GN'R fan who thinks the band died and loves VR because it's got "the real Gunners" in it.

If you have a problem with the fact that some people here might not enjoy Scott Weiland's solo album or think Gilby's solo albums are classics, then you might need to look for a Weiland forum and a Gilby forum.....


We're here for GN'R. This section was created for those who are curious of what the former members are doing. That doesn't mean this is supposed to be a place of Weiland worship.

I got into a pretty decent discussion with Jarmo about this, not so long ago. I think some of you might remember.
During my posts and rebuttals, I mainly used quotes and analogies to try and convince our good founder that he was basically using double standards and being the pot who calls the kettle black. I used the usual arsenal of standard Jarmo quotes (like the "what's with the piano" thing he keeps on bringing up), along with some things specific to the thread he was posting in at the time. I mentioned the Merk letter being censored for no reason whatsoever, I mentioned that in censoring that kind of shit he accomplishes nothing but breeding a crop of "yes-men", who aren't allowed to think for themselves. I mentioned that removing public information just because it's someone else's point of view deprives people the ability to read both sides of the story and make their minds up for themselves.

I posted all that and more, in a polite, understanding and respecting manner.

My post was removed.

I call that bullshit, to be honest. And I don't care about being banned anymore. I come here for all the sections, not just the nuGNR section. I mainly love the VR, Ex-Gunners, Nice Boys Don't Play Rock And Roll, Appetite For Collection and Guns N' Roses sections, but I appreciate all of them. If the focus shifts even more toward nuGNR news only ('cause you can't call a thread of people posting how great something is a discussion, can you?), this site will become next to worthless. Not a threat, more like a prediction.

So in the end, I gather Jarmo is that guy in high school that changed the rules in every game he played when he wasn't winning. He is that guy who threw a fit when things didn't go his way; and now that he runs a pretty successful site, he enjoys his moment of glory an wallows in his own self indulgence, abusing what little power he has over his community. I used to respect him, but since Guns' resurrection he started losing it, little by little... and now I can finally say there is none left.

So, my question to you guys is: what is the best alternative for this forum? A place where Guns and VR are treated with equal respect, everyones point of view is appreciated, nothing is censored (except copyrighted material, of course), where guys like tomass74, Grouse, Wooody, FunkyMonkey, estebanf, RichardNixon, mikegiuliana, and the many others I like to read on this forum are left free to comment and speak their mind? Is Roses of Velvet a reasonable place? What about gnrsource, I recently got a pm invite to join them, based on my posts here, that's a good sign, isn't it?

He was posting about being banned here and not visiting months ago. What happene? He came back to post something he shouldn't have and I banned him. Just like he claimed had happened months ago.

Some of the other posters aren't even interested in GN'R anymore, so why would they come to a GN'R board?

That should about sum it up for everyone.  I'll be the first one to admit that shit has been crazy on here the past few days.  Hell I was PISSED at Jarmo for the whole madagascar fiasco.  But then I really thought about it and I realized that he was between a rock and a hard place, he had to choose between two extremes.  1.  Let a totally open discussion ensue with everyone and their brother asking about getting a link to the leak ect or 2.  Just nipping it in the bud before all the bullshit could even start.  I'm still not sure what he should have done, and I am totally glad that I wasnt the one that had to make that decision.  Jarmo is doing the best that he can given the circumstances.  Everyone that is giving Jarmo a hard time needs to just relax, I mean jesus if he wanted to be a total prick he could just pull the plug on the board.  I may not agree with everything he does, but I respect the decisions he makes.

And don't act like I would have been made that thread into a VR vs. GN'R fight. Quality is something that's hard to measure. You love Snakepit, most of us think it's crap.

But we can pretty much say that "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" hardly falls under the "classic rock albums" category. It's not "Led Zeppelin's "IV" or even Appetite For Destruction.


You might think it's A+ quality, and nobody can say you're wrong, but if you say it's a classic rock album, we can say you're wrong.

Sorry to bring GnR into this again, but will all due respect, Scott Weiland has had more success in his career than each of the 6 guys who joined GnR in the last ten years combined. Yet, I think everyone on this site believes they have the talent to pull of something big, so why not Scott. I think that Contraband is a solid record, but far away from being a classic rock album. It's not bad at all. Some songs have some sort of identical tune in it; and some people have to get used to it, just like I did.
"Spectacle" is the best song in my opinion, but everybody prefers something different. And it is cool that way.

But the major point is, this is a "Guns N' Roses" board. 99% of the visitors come here to read news about GN'R in the first place. The other sections have been created by GN'R fans who share the love for other things too. So it will always have a different point of view on VR for example than on a "normal" VR board. A lot of people I have talked to on the net or personally are disappointed by Contraband, they expected something better. Especially when you look at the members of the band. The potential is bigger than the stuff they have done so far.
I dislike Scott for several reasons. I don't like his voice on some songs, I don't like his stage presence and other stuff, but that didn't stop me from buying Contraband the day it was released. I wanted to hear their music so that I could be able to either change my mind or to get my thoughts and fears confirmed. It was a little mix of both things, but the disappointment was slightly bigger.
Judging from this first album (I have nothing else to judge from) and judging from his and the other members other works I really doubt that there will be some "ground-breaking" songs on Libertad. I hope I am wrong, but I will know when I have the album here. At THIS time I can only assume things by looking on the past stuff.

As far as song writing skills are concerned only some of Izzy's solo work had some major rock riffs that "touched" me, but that's again only from a personal point of view.

Everything on this board is in fact from a "GN'R fan's point of view", so people should get used to it.
People who started with Contraband may think of it being a great album, but I don't, because I know what great stuff Slash kicked out of his amps in the past.
And on their debut album Contraband there was nothing great in my opinion. But to make it clear again, I enjoy listening to Contraband, it's a solid rock album, but it brings tears in my eyes to hear that there is so much "quality" left that has not been used on it.
