SW USA is where I want to go for my next trip.

Agree with you about hiking, camping....nothing beats an amazing view, especially one where you've walked for hours just to get to the perfect spot.  very rewarding.

i have some great pictures from a trip to NZ/AUS a few years ago.  I'll have to post a few here.

Do:

North Rim of grand canyon. If you have time, drive an hour through middle of forest to "east" (unofficial, no services) rim. Absolutely friggin amazing. Of the zillion people that visit that place each year, only a tiny amount go off the beaten path. The east rim is well worth it. It is like having the entire canyon to yourself and whoever else is with you. Pack a lunch and thank me when you get back.

Flagstaff Az, something about that place.

Zion, like dying and going to heaven. Kind of like being at the bottom of the grand canyon, looking up.

Bryce Canyon, like being in a road runner cartoon.

I may very well be hiking some of the AT in the next year or so. Give it a test run and see how I fair. If I can manage, I will drop out for 6 months and do what I am able. You only live once.

one of my best friends has always talked about hiking the AT.  would be great to just hit pause on life like that and hike it.  the number one thing to worry about (or so I've read) is blisters.  they end many AT hikes apparently....

thanks for the SW advice.  ok

Well...I've never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music. And I've never been to England, but I kinda like the Beatles. But I've been to Oklahoma, they tell me I was born there.

^Love that song.

My latest trip: Southwestern USA

Did you get to Zion by chance? It is absolutely stunning.

Seriously, those photos are simply amazing.  ok

That is why I love hiking, camping, skiing so much. To me, nothing can beat it.

There was this great site I found once with people who posted pics, reviews, etc. Every single travel destination around the globe. It was an awesome site. I'll try to remember the name of it....

I recently drove out west.

Here is a picture of a forest fire at about 2:00 in the morning on I-90.

Here is a picture of Mt Reiner about 60 miles away!

haven't done the north rim yet, but totally agree on Flagstaff.  Great place.    I want to do the new "west" rim with the skywalk but heard its a rip off.  But with it being so close to Vegas I'm sure I'll check it out sooner or later.
